Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Found and purchased an HM-2w from Craigslist today - guy lived less than a mile from me. Anyway, I'd say they nailed the HM-2/Swedish Death Metal tone for guitar. Standard is exactly what you'd want out of an HM-2, and the custom mode adds just a hair more gain and bass, and keeps the relatively low noise floor. It all sounds a bit clearer than others as well. Kudos to Boss on this one - it's perfect for my simple HM-2 needs on guitar.

I haven't been able to listen to all of this yet, solely because of my own crap and not because of the music itself. What jumped out to me the most (and I'm about halfway through) is the dynamics. You guys do a great job of contrasting loud and heavy with sparse and quiet. I think that's a nuance that often gets lost in this type of music, and it's something I really enjoy. Fantastic stuff...I look forward to finishing it, but I like it enough already that I purchased it.

Speaking of HM's, I've got an HM-6 from Fuzzlord. The thing is great on bass, the circuitry lets a lot of low end through in contrast to most of the more guitar centered fuzzes and dirt boxes I've played. I find massively distorted bass is a difficult beast to wrangle though, and in my current situation I've just got a compressor and a little dirt from my amp. If I were in a goregrind band or something though it would be on all the time! *cue the chainsaw noises*

I have found that my HM-2 needs on bass must have all the bells and whistles to make it work, otherwise it just doesn't sound good in the mix. My HM-2 needs on a guitar, however, and the most basic. Just give me something that chainsaws and I can make it work. Not that I don't have preferences on guitar, but the simple clones seem to work best for me.

Appreciate the kind words and of course the purchase man! Dynamics is definitely near and dear to my heart so it means a lot :D
