Getting some practice in at home right now, trying to get down Magic Fingers by Zappa and going through my bands setlist/working on some new material. Soon I'm going to be headed out for pre-birthday dinner and drinks with the wife! Tomorrow gonna see Elder and Dreadnought, tough choice because Matt Pike is playing the same night but should be a good show.

Dreadnought is awesome live. Actually I could have just stopped at "Dreadnought is awesome."

Call me a treasonous bastard, but that's an easy choice - and you made the right one.

Sleep was thoroughly underwhelming when I saw them earlier this year. Elder is just a flaming, raucous ball of awesomeness.

I’m catching Elder in Ft. Worth. I would have caught my local show but I couldn’t get off from work. It should be worth the drive.

Getting the tire off the rim (and on again) is such a specific skill, that general handiness hardly comes into play.

I think I've been able to do it reliably since my mid thirties. That was a matter of some pride: here in the Netherlands you're expected to do this on your own if you're 18 or up.

Well, I got it all fixed up! After trying to patch the leak (it was too big, but I wanted to give it a shot if for no other reason than practice), I had to do it all over again. MUCH easier the second time. Then, I saw that the handlebars were loose, and that half of screw that keeps them on was missing. So I ran to a local bike shop with 15 minutes left before they closed and they gave me a new stem (because that screw isn't sold separately). Took the bike home, and it's all good - until I realize the headlight clamp is broken, making my headlight useless, and that somewhere I'd lost my bike lock. I re-drove to the shop, found the lock in the street, and it still works even after being hit by at least one car. Then, I went and bought a new headlight/taillight combo at a different store (that I've also already visited today for my wife's matching headlight/taillight combo), because I bike at night and the whole impetus for this has been a large gathering tomorrow in which many people start a ride at midnight. Lights are required, and my wife needed a set, then I needed a replacement!

Short story - my bike is FINALLY back in working shape, after what literally should have only been fixing a quick flat and buying lights for my wife's bike. But it's done! Went for a quick test ride and all - no issues.

I'm pretty much done already. I live close to Monterey, and a buddy had some passes to a very fancy place with a very fancy car show today (it's the concourse de elegance-y something something next week). Some incredible machines and even more incredibly well to do folks, including a billionaire my buddy introduced me to (friend of a friend thing). LA DEE DA.

The best part was driving up into the country club in my '70s creeper mobile and getting to park it on the fairway.

I love a good van. And that's a damn good van. You just need an airbrushed scene on the side...something with a wizard and/or dragon.
