Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So in a move that may surprise or upset people (unless it's Mike, he'll be stoked).

I've decided to sell my Dually in favor of going back to a sealed 10" based cab.

The Dually is an awesome cab, but after a few months of playing with it and the 66, I find myself really missing the feel/sound of a sealed cab (ala my old Berg NV610) and while the Dually sounds great, it doesn't sound like a sealed cab with 10's.

So I'm going to be moving the Dually on, figured I'd let anyone here have a crack at it first.

I'd rather keep it semi-local to the midwest (I can even meet someone half-way or whatever), but I'm not opposed to shipping.

It's Faital loaded, black duratex, and has a wheat/black and tan grill. But if that's not your cup of tea, it's pretty easy to swap out a new grill cloth.

Construction is top notch, and it really does sound great. I've used it at 3 or 4 shows, and a bunch of practices, so it's still pretty much like new condition.

I'll most likely regret this decision once I have to move whatever monstrous cab I replace it with (either another NV610 or a legend loaded 8x10)

Anyways, if anyone is interested shoot me a PM and we can discuss from there.

What are you replacing it with? Going to hunt down another Berg or maybe pick up a non-Ampeg sealed 810?

Partly tempted to find another NV610, but since the 66 is 48" tall and I love symmetry I'm thinking of getting a used ampeg 8x10 and upgrading a bunch of stuff (mostly speakers).

Or if I can find a good price on one of the Heritage 8x10's I'll go that route as it already has most of the upgrades I would do to a used one.

Well, I texted the guitarist from the other month, just to say "hey" and see what was going on, and so far, nothing back. I'm hoping he's just busy, but am mentally preparing to either: A.) Get the, "thanks but no thanks."message, or B.) to hear nothing at all. Ah well.

It's really hard to go wrong with a good sealed 810. I still have mine, regardless of the size/weight/efficiency comparisons to my Duallies, because it just has a certain sound that works great for some things. The good thing about Ampeg 810 cabs, they are so plentiful that if you wanted a project one you could get it for next to nothing. You could probably get a trashed Classic 810e with ripped tolex, blown drivers and a missing grill for super cheap and build it up to your heart's content.

So yesterday evening I was walking home (aka I head to my apartment on foot, get my car and drive to the house) from class and halfway home I notice this girl from my complex is near me and heading back too. Then I see some people I know, wave and chat, and then stop for my mail then head to my car. So when I get there she's still behind me and I look over and she says "don't think I'm stalking you lol!" Then starts talking about herself. I say I don't really live here anymore, just park, and only for the next month. She was like well then I'll still see you this month... And walked off.

Oh for sure, I'm gonna start looking around for something. But between speakers, refinishing a trashed cab, and a new grill/cloth, and hardware I may be better off getting one of those Hertiage cabs and replacing the grill cloth to match the 66. Less of a project overall, and possibly cheaper, unless I can get an 810e box about free.

Gotta move the Dually first though.

Nope. Meh meh Midrangy. It's a shame, from a distance there was more promise. She should have maintained the distance and mystery.

If she was hot lol I'd not have said I'm not really staying here... I'd be like I got two places, which you wanna see first?

"Meh meh midrangey" and "from a distance there was more promise" sound too much like descriptions of bass amps/cabs. xD

Edit: I guess at least she wasn't boxy or muddy?

Mmmm, yeah, if you plan on replacing all the speakers it probably wouldn't be that much of a savings over buying a Heritage one used in good condition.

Maybe the dude from emperor (whatever the name is now) can build you a sealed 8-10...

There was a really good deal on a Heritage on GC. I think it was 700. I almost bought it even though I don't really want an 810. Now I am kicking myself for not pulling the trigger.
