I know early on he used a P-Bass. Not sure on pedals, but he's used darkglass overdrives/preamps later on.

That is The Omen by Tone Sucker it is a baritone rat pedal, really really awesome for doom and crusty sounds.

Hmm, what is “baritone”? Does it thin out the sound, or is there a blend where the lows are unaffected, distortion only on high frequencies?

Not sure how to describe baritone, however it's rad for down tuned bass and guitars.

Wicked low tuned Rat. This one is definitely able to rattle some windows and piss of your neighbors. Tons of low end and some crushing high gain worthy of a spot in the chain of the spawn of satan. This b1tch ain't making any praise and worship boards on Sundays.

• higher value caps allowing for more low end response
• 18v internal charge pump.

  • Use a regular 9v supply and the pedal doubles the internal voltage allowing for more headroom
• 5mm red led clipping diodes a la the Turbo Rat
• Great on guitars, baritones, and bass.

Not sure if I mentioned it here before, but I bought a used AmpTweaker FatMetal Pro a few months ago. It arrived making (unwanted) noise. Thankfully, it was refunded, and the seller told me to keep it as he's giving up guitar and just getting rid of stuff. Sweet - seemed likely to be a simple fix, so I contacted AmpTweaker and sent it their way. They were unable to fix it, but no charge minus shipping. Not a big deal. Here's where it gets cool - I'm FB friends with James Brown (yes, the James Brown, designer of the 5150 and AmpTweaker Pedals) from a Peavey group I'm in. It's just a random FB friend thing, like following a celebrity or something - it's not like we're constantly chatting or anything like that. I thought maybe I'd ask him if he had any suggestions or knew anybody he'd trust to get it up and running again. Instead, he offered to personally fix up my pedal. It just came back to me, functions perfectly, AND a living amp legend fixed it for me. Just one of those cool internet stories of things working out. Love it when the internet connects us all in such a great way, and still so happy that the FX world can be so niche and tightly knit. It still amazes me how often I know and have had direct contact with the exact person who has built and/or designed components of my rig. Another reason I love TB so much.

Side note: As I'm trying diligently to reduce my pedal intake this year, this is the only pedal I've purchased so far, and it's for guitar usage and not bass. Plus, I only had to pay to get it fixed, so even though I've shipped it twice, I basically got a grail pedal I've been waiting to find for about $100 total. These things regularly go for $250+ used, which is decidedly out of my price range, so I'm a happy dude right now. I may grab a Rat clone for guitar as well, but that is also likely to be relatively cheap, and we'll see. I'll probably grab a rack for my 400RB-IV this week too, but that's a functional purchase and one that will likely be funded by trading in some older stuff I no longer use and that isn't selling, so no cash expended.

Pretty decent sounding SS head. A guy in the UK still makes footswitches for channel switching and turning the phaser on/off, without that it would be a boat anchor. The compressor is not really subtle, the phaser is ludicrous, no one on your block is gonna have one, I love it.

A local music store had an anniversary sale, a 4U rack I have been looking for, and I had some random gear that has been listed for months and not sold, so I decided to head on down and see what would happen. Short version - I got rid of extraneous gear that wasn't selling and actually got a few bucks in credit from them after trading for the 4U rack I wanted. I also got a free pretzel and bottle of water! Solid day! While waiting for my gear to be appraised, I also got to play one of the often lauded Peavey T40s. While I enjoyed it, it seemed far less expressive than my Ibanez SR505 (admittedly, it has an upgraded Bart NTMB preamp). Regardless, I liked the immediacy I felt in the T40, as it seemed naturally compressed, if a little lacking in the high end. I think with some EQ tweaking, I could make it work no problem. And I can confirm its reputation for being hefty - this thing was HEAVY. Anyway, it was also apparent that I'm incredibly rusty on bass. I am looking forward to having time to actually play and practice soon. My hands knew what to do, they just couldn't do it! Tomorrow I've got a lead on a local cheap Furman power conditioner (which I know is a glorified power strip, and am fine with), so I'll hopefully grab that and have my whole new rack setup for cheap. Wish me luck!

Randomly found a pedal maintenance video that said you could use isopropyl alcohol to clean footswitches, and I decided I could probably try contact cleaner. Long story short, my Pharaoh Supreme, which has had an intermittent footswitch for years, appears to be completely fixed. Time will tell, but it went from cutting out nearly every time I stomped it to not cutting out a single time the dozen or so times I stomped it afterwards. Seems pretty convincing evidence to me.

Other than that, I actually got to play a bit today! Definitely rusty, and there were certainly parts I didn't remember right away, but overall I did better than I thought I would. Now, to make sure I keep it up!

Just be carefull with ‘Duster’/canned air, use strategically and sparingly as it can easily go into refrigerant mode. Why it does that, I have no idea.

I've got a Magic Fuzzthrone that is a real bastard when switching. This conversation happened at a great time.

If you're giving it a shot (pun NOT intended...), I used one of those little straw things on the contact cleaner can and sprayed it on the bulk of the footswitch (the part that submerges into the body of the pedal) with a paper towel behind to catch stray spray. I did three sprays, each a third of the way around the bulk of the cylinder. Then, I pressed the switch about 40ish times before giving it a few minutes to dry. Plugged it in, and it worked flawlessly. I'll have to check it again in the next day or two when I have time to play again, but I'm optimistic. It hasn't worked that well in years, so I'm confident it's fixed.

Well, I've acquired two more Dunables (Gnarwhal DE and a US R2) and moved one along (R2 DE) while waiting on my Thunderclapper 5 to get built. Sold both my four and five string ATKs, traded a Zon Mosaic Mojo towards the US R2, traded a Genzler NC-212T for a Schecter MA5 -- which is much better playing and sounding than I expected it to be -- that may be the heavily modded beater for the divey-ist of dive bars, sold a few pedals, bought a few pedals... GAS has subsided for a bit. And I always mean a "bit"

But, all in all, I'm hoping I can curb the gear expenditures until the custom shows up.

Milwaukee Metal Fest was great and I got to see more than a few bands that I've been wanting to see for a long time. Unfortunately, I missed Young Widows and Kowloon Walled City because it was on Memorial Day.

Next up is post. fest in Indianapolis. Cave In, Converge, Pelican, Primitive Man and Bongripper. I'm taking my oldest daughter to finally see Cave In after almost two decades of having to listen to them with me. 'Bout to have a proud papa moment in July.

Lining up some summer gigs and hoping to scrape together a little Midwestern mini-tour in the fall.

When you put it all together, it seems like a lot.
