Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Busy gigging, have not bought gear in maybe a year. (Am I still even welcome at TB?!?) Pretty happy with the POG nano -> Green Russian combo for my bread and butter tone. One of these days I want to try a Tone Bender MkII or a SI Fuzz Face. Just because. Or another Muff variant. Or a Turbo Rat.
The wanderlust has started creeping in on me. Thankfully I got no extra $ clickety clacking around in my pockets these days so it stays firmly in "what if" land. I can always shoot out my fuzz/dirt shelf (Superfuzz, RAT, Foxx Tone Machine) and (again) realize I'm a simple Green Russian fanboy.

Pretty sure the Fur Coat is based on the Foxx Tone Machine. I already have 2 versions of that circuit (HbE Ultimate Fuzz Octave, Joyo Voodoo Octave) I agree it is gnarly! It was my main fuzz until I got the Muff/Pog combo.
It is indeed, but it's far from an exact clone, more like inspired by it, and much more bass friendly.
Also as said the Orange Fur Coat got an adjustable octave, meaning you blend in as much or little octave signal you want, including non at all.
For what it is worth I personally do not like Muff based fuzzes for bass, too muddy, unarticulated, and undefined.

If you make it to Wisconsin, I'm there. The little bit I've listened to is heavy as balls. I dig it a lot .
I aspire to what you describe, and have lasted all year without purchasing anything for bass besides strings. So far, I've been pretty successful, and at this point, have no real bass GAS. It's a great place to be that most of the stuff I want is prohibitively expensive for what I'd get out of it (new electronics for my bass/es), and every fuzz I have gotten interested in doesn't do it for me compared to fuzzes I already have. Ditto for Rats. And my other tones are 100% spoken for at the moment. When I have a moment of weakness, I - like you - do a shootout amongst that style of pedal and find that I'm happy with what I have. I consider that a win. Now, I just need to find consistent time to play again!
I’m with you in that I haven’t been buying bass stuff for a minute. If anything I have finally settled on my guitars and bought back a Fuzzhugger Phantom Arcade glitch fuzz. I never used it for bass when I owned one the first time around but I sure am going to try it on bass this time…and report back after a jam tomorrow.
First shootout between the import and the US Dunables. Advantage: DE Gnarwhal, for now. They both sound and play killer, but it's hard to make that double P sound bad.
It's because at that point it's releasing it's propellant, which is a liquid when pressurized, but is a gas at atmospheric pressure. So, when it gets to escape and freezes things up, it gets out as a liquid but immediately turns to a gas. That phase transition requires energy to happen, so it takes it in the form of heat from anything it's touching.
And yeah, contact cleaner works wonders with switches. Heck, I'm pretty sure my amp guy immediately cleans all the pots and switches with contact cleaner before he even tests anything.
I've spoken to a few ppl on a different thread about boutique vs. clones pedal comparison.
Holy poopie some of these dudes are super nerds. I get the technical aspect and having different components and diodes and etc... but holy Jesus Murphy! These guy's are arguing Price points of part's it's a bit of a poopie storm if you ask me.
Although I started the thread to hear or read some comparison's about a budget life pedal (as well as hear other budget pedals) with a series of pedals I stead of the solitary unit.
It seems these guitar nerds are bickering back and forth. I think I pissed off a hornets nest. Jeez

Folks don't like it when you tell them they spent a bunch of money for no reason.
Having said that, I have -- with few exceptions -- mostly boutique pedals. I like what I like. I don't really care what anyone else uses. I don't try to cop other peoples' tones. I like my own.
Def a hivemind mentality throughout a lot of TB. I like it here way better. Gear only matters a little. Play what you can afford and what you like and don't worry about what you are supposed to like or supposed to fork out $$$ for.
Oh for sure, I've always been open to different perspectives, I just didn't think starting a thread to just hear opinions with mild biased experiences would turn in a passive snarky bicker fest.
I have a few boutique pedals myself but I'm not forking over $150-200 for a Boss hyper fuzz when I can get berhinger that also has 2 selector switch & boost for a fraction of the Boss.
It's not about being able to afford it as much as it is not wanting to take a big loss, so I rarely buy things new. I had zero intentions of ever wanting -- let alone buying -- a custom bass. But, the idea of a double split five string Thunderclapper broke me. I hope I'll never have to try and recoup any of it; there are other basses for that.
As for effects, that's a little more difficult, but there is some fun to be had. Take Broughton and 3 Leaf Audio. If you can get in on one of the drops, you won't lose a dime if you decide to move it along. Don't get me started on the effing scalpers...
But, finally, it is a bass forum. I think people come searching for information/knowledge and approval in fairly equal numbers. Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many NBD, NPD, NAD, NCD, NWTFD threads, would there?
And, this is the only place where anyone cares about most of this stuff. Can't go taking their appreciation away.
