Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Cut everything. LED mode. start with mids. then mass. tone on all muff usually thin it out.. and the mid are what you use to cut thru.. if it sound horrible.. it will cut thru.. lol.. the setting you hate is the magic setting..
I'll try and give it another go-round soon! Pretty sure I've done all of these before, but hey, any reason to mess with another Muff! Thanks for the tips. In my other mid-enabled Muffs, I dime the mids, so I'm all for that on the '71. We'll see what happens.

remember bass is simple.. the more you try the worse it sounds.. and it's not what you put in.. it's what you leave out.. some basses don't work with fuzz.. because the frequency isn't bright enough. try just the mid with a full band.. step out from the stage.. and listen to the full band.. with a few people in the room if possible

Replaced the pickups on the hofner with some thundertrons, plus a few more minor mods. this thing just sings now.

I GOT NOTHIN'

Well, not exactly. I'm purging some inventory. Bills piled up fast this summer.
I'm still holding strong on my anti-GAS this year with my single pedal purchase. May still get another guitar pedal or two, but really have no bass GAS at all these days. Basically, just looking for deals on "grail" pieces for bass, and not worried about needing them. It's pretty nice!

Other than that, I also got nothin'. Thought I was going to be able to play more a few weeks ago, no such luck. Weird car issues that I think (hope!) are fixed, and as simple as they first appeared. Then family stuff, vacations, etc. got in the way. I think it's all winding down soon... then find out my cousin will be in town! I'll play bass regularly again some time. I think...

I finally got around to finishing my custom 6 string after 4 years of slowly accumulating parts, so, functionally, I have a new bass. Kept it fully passive to make sure the fuzzed get along with it. Other than that, I am finally settled on my instruments to the point where I haven’t doom scrolled through Reverb in a few months.

Just ordered a cheapo Amazon special Donner Yellow Fall delay for $30. I haven't owned a dedicated delay pedal ever. Lol. It does the self oscillating feedback freakout thing, which I think is all I want for the end of a set. A classic gimmick. Haha. Should have it this weekend.

Also, these email notifications from TB are all kinds of messed up, I'll get 'em for weeks then nada regardless if anyone posts or not. Weird.

Alright, finally got pics. Just needs a “producer knob” just to fill out the blank hole that I did not use. Has the same passive Kellingsound varitone boost filter circuit as I have in my Jazz. Basically has all the bougie high-end features but works very well with gain pedals without getting shrill.

My old drone doom project has a new track online, first one in, I dunno, but at least 15 years. This one's really just ambient drone, no doom, but there will be doom (and even wandering off into atmospheric indie pop where I just went, eh, no distorted bass needed on this one). I did want to use this one song as a demo for the commercial user stuff, as it features the 2-string curtain rod bass, plus bowed DB drones and pitched/layered low vocal drones, so, well, it's out. Vocals to record for five more songs, possibly also an alternate language version for one of them, and then we should have enough for an album.

Links? I'd love to hear this.

Me too!

Sounds really interesting, and like it would be right up my alley.

Might have posted this one in this thread before. Me and a bunch of people I could talk into it just playing a simple motif from Edvard Grieg's Death Of Ase, vocals overdubbed later by me. Not sure if the bass guitar was also an overdub, but I think it was, and I played DB in the live home-recorded session. The flute was played by an older lady working in the office who just saw me printing out sheet music and asked what it's for. And the flute sure does add a lot here.

And new. If my math is right, that's a 29th harmonic I'm bowing at the very end.

I've been going down the delay rabbit hole. Testing out these two right now.

On the topic of delays, I love the NUX Tape Core Deluxe, which is an amazing digital emulation of the legendary Roland RE-201 Space Echo tape delay, so much I got 2 of them.

Only one of my current board though, and most of the time I have it dialed in on a reverb like delay setting, with the parallel emulated spring reverb of the unit, dialed in as well, on a rather subtle setting, delay time set at just about 200ms, low in the mix, with about 3 repeats.

The stock setting for the adjustable separate random chorus like emulated tape wow and flutter respectively, gives a beautiful subtle modulation to the delays.

Yes, you posted at least the first one once before in this thread.

Awesome stuff though.

Love it! 😍

Heh, I vaguely remember somebody from Bongripper being active on the old DFFD forum that basically was a non-Southern-Lord-affiliated continuation of the Southern Lord forum. I suggested they call an album "Bongripper Grips The Bon". I'm still proud of that one.
