Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I had a 32" Ibanez Destroyer that I flipped pretty quick couldn't get over the body and didn't spend much time on setup. Now that we have dropped the guitard that insisted on drop C it would have been a fun challenge to get it re work in BEAD.

Ricks are medium scale like 32.25" I believe. Or another route is the warmoth SS parts. But those are neither going to be cheap.

I like the shorter style, but it effects the tension which effects the tone (not negative, but different) I'm curious how something in the middle would react.

A p or j bass in 32 without a crazy price tag, or any pickup combo I guess just to get suggestions.

Only basses that I've played that aren't short scale, but are less than 34" are Rickenbackers, which are 33.25". They seem to do fine at low tunings (to a point).

Unrelated, but coolness.

Drop C is basically the most annoying tuning to me. Hell, if someone insisted on it, I'd probably just set up for BEAD and capo the first fret, lol.

Trust me is sent two of us into a tail spin of hate. It's all about that one finger power cord. So yeah that's what I did for the last of the sessions with him, I brought the Gecko and made him follow us tuned to B.

As for the 30" scale bass options I just found a 30" scale Jag Squire on Musicians friend. $179 may be a worthy experiment.

When I play guitar, I tend to prefer standard tunings anyway, because drop tuning barre chords are weird to me. I feel like I can do more in a standard tuning.

On bass, since I don't really do Tool type stuff, drop tunings are pretty pointless, as I'm unlikely to ever play a power chord on the bottom two strings, let alone needing to do it with one finger.

Did some work on the repurposed wood cab over the weekend...got it almost done. Just need to cut a hole for the speaker and find a grill.

"Awesome" is not the word I'd use to describe that guitar.

Didn't think I'd do it but I've decided to flip some staple pedals. Came to the realisation that I just don't use them enough to warrant keeping or that the sound I get from them is simply sub-par to what I expect. Out go the Aguilar TLC compressor, Boss GEB-7 and my MXR M80 - my first stompbox. My baord's gonna be looking an awful skinny for a while.
