Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

That always confused me... I usually just run my 810 by itself.

So, two 4ohm cabs run parallel = 2 ohm load.
Then, two 4ohm cabs run in series = 8 ohm load?

Yes.

So parallel is using the two output jacks from the head, one to one cab, and the other to another cab?
And two cabs in series is one head output jack to a cab then the output of the cab to the next cab?

No!

You need a special cable or box for series connection. All cabs, and the vast majorty 99.9999% of amps output jacks are wired in parallel.

Well no reply yet from the Great Gear Absconder. Also, informed the landlords that we'll be getting the shag out sooner than later, if all goes according to my calculations the owners of the house we're looking at will be contacting current landlords for a reference today.

I really want to live in that house. We've been in this tiny-ass 1 bedroom apartment for three years, no storage, no laundry on site, no off-street parking.

No room for either of us to work on our hobbies/projects.

No way to avoid waking up someone trying to sleep in the bedroom.

We have this goddamn alternate-side parking in the winter time and the Parking Enforcement folks are efficient and merciless - sick of dealing with it.

Laundry is an event that takes 2.5-3 hours - avoiding weirdos and homeless people sleeping on the laundromat floor - sick of dealing with it.

Can't keep 90% of my gear in the apartment - literally no room.

Can't have guests over - nowhere for them to sit.

Landlords live upstairs - haven't had a smoke indoors in 3 years.

To top it all off it's heated with electric baseboard heaters - which are EXPENSIVE to run in the winter. The walls aren't insulated. The windows and casings are 75 years old. It will cost less to heat the house that we're looking at than it does to heat the current place.

...and I really want my amp back.

OK, rant over - just had to get that out. Normally I hate moving with a passion - but now that it means that we're getting the shag out of the current place - I'm excited to get started.

I guess I need to look for a series cable/box then...

They're actually super easy to build, I built one myself a few years back to run my 2000s with two 4 ohm cabs. I'm at work but I'll see if I can't find the schematics this evening, it's like 3 jacks and 4 wires or something stupidly easy.

Not sure, but I will assume he had to play it with a steely-eyed squint, like The Man With No Name.

Doesn't he always squint.

lol I was in total agreement with you on this is how it is, then I had to read two pages of NOO! Nothing like waking up to feeling dumb.

I would rather have a power section that puts out full power at 8 Ohms. ;)

Why is that?

Share for everyone or pm me in addition to deth. I got a box and jacks laying around, good little project to do.
