I use a little cheap-ass Phono Pre from Pyle - I think the part number is PP999. Dead simple, works fine, sounds pretty damn good. I wanted to plug my turntable directly into my powered monitors, does the job just fine.
I think my gear may be worth more than my wife's car AND my car. Both sub $1500.00 craigslist Volkswagens
But I love them. I may give that a try in the mean time, since I can order it off Amazon prime and have it here inside of this week. Just itching to listen to records again and want to do it up right
He was actually asking $75 but I offered him $5 more if he'd meet me half way which saved me about 30mins. Its crazy what
people are asking for them on ebay.

The website looks a bit sketchy, but I've had a great experience with them. A really decent preamp at a killer price. Very clean. You can save a few bucks by going with the model without a level control, but I don't recommend it. Designed by the owner of the site, but manufactured overseas. Not boutique by any means, but a great bang for the buck.

I have a little dot MKIII that i use as a preamp and headphone amp. really nice especially with the upgraded power and preamp tubes. I also just got a LD1+ and it's a great headphone amp if you heaphones with low impedance ( <100 ohms).
For phono preamp i am using a basic pro-ject box. it does the trick.
