Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I never really got in any serious fights when I was a kid either. I also didn't act like an *******, wreck people's stuff or generally be a dick. I pretty much avoided people that I didn't like. Another factor was the fact that people in junior high and high school were legit afraid of me - I guess walking around looking pissed off and wearing death metal t-shirts will do that. Senior year I mellowed out and made a lot more friends, everyone said that they couldn't believe that i was a just a nice, open-minded dude.

One warning- Its CHEAP. It works great for me, as it doesn't have to move, but if you need it for gigs, spend the scratch and get a nice one.

The chords, triads, extensions are built from the mode and Nashville Notation just assigns a number to the interval(mode) of the scale. Think of the scale as just one long line repeating the same notes over and over again and then what interval(note) of the scale you start the chain on is the mode, then pick your chords from the first note of the interval(which is the mode of the key/scale you are in).
C major scale
C D E F G A B repeats C D E F G A B C Ionain mode
so Dorian mode is the second interval D so
D E F G A B C repeat D E F G A B C D
so it is a minor chord, skip every other interval gets you intervals 1 b3 and 5
D-F-A d minor triad

What gets me is the leading tones, grabbing a note from the upcoming chord.
I hope I wrote that right as I got a major migraine but I am sure someone will straighten it out if I jazzed that up.

AUGHfughhHuhjghkfj%*&$%^#*$& I need private lessons :/ Thanks for the attempt though, I just need a better foundation in...well, everything.

Took my trash can in and my neighbor tells me my dog is dead... Don't have a dog. So I go knock on the owners door and it's the Mexican neighbors who don't speak English so they sent the little kids to the door and I get to say tu perro es Muerto what a good start to the day... Thank god they didn't start crying.

Maybe they will start using collars and keeping the other dog in the back yard or inside

Buy the books I mentioned. None of my teachers ever got me into much theory I had to pick it up on my own through books. That book I mentioned makes it really easy too. There is a real good website on modes too. If I can find it I will post it for you.

I will order them off of Amazon tonight. Thanks a ton for the suggestions. Things click into place slowly for me for some reason. But once they do, it usually just explains why something I already do by ear works and allows me to use it more appropriately.

Bummer for the kids, but that's pretty funny. Hope they don't think you killed the dog.

I had/have a ton of mental blocks with theory but it's getting better and things are clicking more now. I wish I had better ears though. I IV V riffs are about all I hear easily.

I was wearing my milk duct tape shirt that has the man skull on like a dog skeleton now that I think about it...

I'm not good in situations like that the mom and four kids were all staring at it and all I could say was do you need anything? As I figured saying do you want to borrow my shovel might be a bit too blunt.

Well, I personally love my el oso for low gain fuzzy growl. It basically gives me Nick Oliveri's tone from QOTSA. I use my Bluebeard for when heavy out of control fuzz is needed. If I didn't have those two, I'd probably get a grey stache with a clean blend. But I'm a huge fan of having a clean blend on any fuzz/dirt for bass. I've got one on my demon&rat pedal, it was worth every penny of the extra couple of bucks. All that said, I just ordered a darkest driving for my new doom band.

Check the U-tube on that one, I think there a bass only version of Geezers. It's pretty busy.

Also if we have the same book, it sucks because they're too cheap to lay out things properly, they stack two variations on top of each other,(using tiny font) making it impossible to read.
