Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Buy a peavey replacement basket and fix the speaker yourself. It's a good thing to have around, or you could sell it.

Hard to get a better bang for you buck than peavey.
Same part replacement is always best.

I paid $10 for it and an acoustic guitar stand at a garage sale.

How do you tell if the crossover works? Battery test apply?

I'll email and compare the cost of basket vs the whole speaker.

I know you guys have already moved on and what not but I just caught up soooooo......

Wow, I just read that volume thread and just...holy sh*tsnacks, what a load. I can't believe S/D got called out like that. When did "rock"3 musicians become such pansies? I've said it before, as much as I like stoner metal, the main reason I frequent this thread is because you guys are on the same page when it comes to amplifiers and such (and also it's just really damn entertaining in here), so in a way it's even more frustrating because I can't say these people don't understand the genre in that volume discussion. I'm more in the acid rock vein of things, but I still want to be as loud as all get out and have stacks of amps. Like, isn't that what rocks about? When did it become about being polite and making sure everyone is okay with how loud you are? That's like the exact OPPOSITE of rock and roll. I get that you need to play to the venue, so blowing out a dinner restaurant might not be cool, but in a proper concert venue, where people have come to see rock or metal, why would you not? I'm not here for people to have conversations while I play in the background, I'm not here to be polite, I'm here to play loud, balls out rock. Like if I go to see Wolfmother tomorrow and I'm not blasted backwards by them I'll be bummed. And it's not just loud for the sake of being loud (although, to be honest, there is just something about being loud...). I want the music to be an experience, I want it to blur your vision and kick you in the chest, while still sounding balanced and high quality. Isn't that what every major development in amplification has been about for like the last 50 years of music? It's just frustrating when people are like "you're too loud for rock music". When did rock become so neutered?

Well-to-do WASPy ******** are trying to do to rock what they already did to Jazz.

The easy way is a frequency sweep and have an ear close enough to tell if is coming from horn or come.

Weird I think I know what your talking about and let me tell you my plan to see if I'm right.

I have a Heath code oscillator I found at goodwill by the pound with the code tapper. It has an external volume knob but a little weird tone trim pot internally. I was thinking of turning that into an external tone pot and mounting it onto a little wood board with the tapper. It has a headphone out, idk if it's safe to plug directly into a speaker but it works into an amp.

For the test I just sweep the tone knob Holding down the oscillator to make a frequency sweep?

For other times I was thinking it would sound neat through that boss synth I got the other day.

Just get you a tone generator app for your smart phone. No need to make it difficult. For that matter I'm not entirely sure what your Heathkit does. Pics?

Man, I don't check in for a couple of days and all hell breaks loose. Car accidents, volume hate, ***? This whole place has gone to pot. Wait what...

I freakin hate cover bands.

Congrats on the baby!

Red bikini turned out to be low quality so I'm on to the next one. My age but no kids or crazy ex men. British too which I like. Doing lunch Saturday.

Probably around the time it started getting categorised under "Rock & Pop" on CD racks in stores.

Rock music is safe now. There's no edge to it. Its no longer rebellious to wear a Nirvana or Sex Pistols shirt or to grow your hair out. Its fashionable. I've even seen Slayer be worn as a fashion accessory. shaged my brain up nice and good.

Like I said. Same thing that happened to jazz. Rich, WASP ******** got their hands on it.

Well... my lady and I are working on a metal project with her screaming like a banshee and bar chording like an angry teenager, and me pounding on my bass strings like a 3 year old with his first drum set.
AND NO @#$%^ING GUITAR SOLOS!!! I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE $%^&*ING NOODLY, WANCKERY, JACKOFFERY GUITAR SOLOS!!!
Wankers.

Should be good. We're just trying to do our part. Keep metal alive.
Crap, we still need a good drummer.
Oh well, good 'ol SR-16 until one magically appears.
