Wow, I just read that volume thread and just...holy sh*tsnacks, what a load. I can't believe S/D got called out like that. When did "rock" musicians become such pansies? I've said it before, as much as I like stoner metal, the main reason I frequent this thread is because you guys are on the same page when it comes to amplifiers and such (and also it's just really damn entertaining in here), so in a way it's even more frustrating because I can't say these people don't understand the genre in that volume discussion. I'm more in the acid rock vein of things, but I still want to be as loud as all get out and have stacks of amps. Like, isn't that what rocks about? When did it become about being polite and making sure everyone is okay with how loud you are? That's like the exact OPPOSITE of rock and roll. I get that you need to play to the venue, so blowing out a dinner restaurant might not be cool, but in a proper concert venue, where people have come to see rock or metal, why would you not? I'm not here for people to have conversations while I play in the background, I'm not here to be polite, I'm here to play loud, balls out rock. Like if I go to see Wolfmother tomorrow and I'm not blasted backwards by them I'll be bummed. And it's not just loud for the sake of being loud (although, to be honest, there is just something about being loud...). I want the music to be an experience, I want it to blur your vision and kick you in the chest, while still sounding balanced and high quality. Isn't that what every major development in amplification has been about for like the last 50 years of music? It's just frustrating when people are like "you're too loud for rock music". When did rock become so neutered?

I checked out Bradley after you mentioned him, dug him, and was stoked to find he used to play with the Budos Band, I love that band. Throwing a link to Antibalas up too, a great band to catch live. 74 p with the univox & BASSIC at machete practice sounded awesome! Got most of a new song but scheduling is keeping any real momentum down. Think I also am going to revamp my dirt. Something fuzzy but defined. Any suggestions?

If you have a spare room and long cables I suggest the Fender Sub-Lime Fuzz, joking but I do think it fits your description. It's so non-fizzy IMHO.

Sub-Lime doesn't fart out with tempo. I keep wanting to like the Bluebeard more but the Sub-Lime just works right, maybe because it is like overdrive and muff blended to my ears anyway. I think I am just going to use my BB as a guitar muff solely.

Palmer Bazz fits that description. Videos don't really do it justice - it shines at high volume in a band mix. A bit lower gain than most fuzz pedals, but I think a lot of that has to do with the low output of my ATK.

Fuzzzzzzz. I've mostly been sticking to the Dunwich Wizard Fuzz and Volt Thrower but I also got back into the Fuzzrocious Ram the Manparts for the really glitchy gated stuff.

For crazy but clear fuzz you just can't beat Ol' Ron FN Swanson but that is Super Fuzz based. Now for muff fuzz I guess I just prefer my muff to be smooth and Queef free.

I have 2 great rats but the guitardist uses one so I just use mine for low gain grit to make my muff a little more defined. Maybe it's just the rig. Already got a rash for too many pedals last night my wah isn't leaving the board for sure. Maybe I'll pop the phaser off the board and load up all my muffs and do a little shootout next jam before we actually practice. Been set in my ways for a while and maybe time for some change. The ric is already creating it's way into the metal band and the P bass is creeping it's way into the stoner band.
