Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

How much change does one need? $50-$100 in ones and fives isn't that crazy is it?

And damn these bar patrons know how to be responsible financially. I'd never touch an ATM near a bar district unless that money was to score me something super incredible (cd, lsd, bed sharing persons drinks). Not saying your guys music merch isn't incredible, I mean I carry cash when I go to bars/shows shag paying fees.

Only tab I use is when someone inevitably gets excited and throws me on theirs.

My experience here, and when I was in Chicago, is a LOT of people just run a card. If I have $200 on me and I get robbed I am out a fat stack of cash. If they take my card, I can cancel it really quickly.

It's been a while since I was gigging and selling merch, but when I was we usually considered $100 to make change in the lockbox as part of the merch expense. We had a lockbox for the money, with pens and paper inside to keep track of sales, expenses and inventory. Then we had some tupperware type boxes with shirts rolled up, with painters tape wrapped around them and the sizes marked, records, stickers, buttons, etc. and had a little table cloth and a tabletop sign with all the prices of everything and usually a mailing list signup or something like that.

Oh big city muggings.

Austin and Denton aren't mean places. Also I only carry $20-60 to a bar usually $20 or less is all I need.

People think I live in the bad part of town, but me and my friend routinely do ghetto safaris and wander around past 2am and see what's stirring and it's usually just armadillos and possums.

One of the cool things that is pretty recent is now you can use Square for credit cards with a smart phone. It's pretty much the same thing as having PayPal, except you can swipe credit cards and email receipts. We use it for service parts here at work, we've always been a payment by check sort of place, since we're not retail oriented. We tried out credit card machines and they were always too expensive to justify, with the fees, but the Square thing is pretty reasonable and easy to use. That's a really good resource for bands to have for merch these days.
