This morning's spin: some pseudo-hipster jazz from a band called Twinemen. My brother went to a library book sale and got a bag of 30 CDs for $2.00, so he's been bringing stuff over sporadically. Before this was a band called Titan, some of the finest straight-outta-Mexico techno. I refused to give it back.

Canada man, I don't think any bar/venue we play around here would just front us $. Even the ones who know us well.

Would not fly out here either. Usually there is a homie that is willing to stick most of the night at merch with relief from family or band here and there... As for change? Don't sell in odd increments and make it easy. For example who ever heard of a weed deal going down for 65.50?

Yep, how I stumbled on to them. Wiki info:
Twinemen is an alternative rock band based in Invalid Link Removed, Massachusetts, USA created by former members of the bands Morphine and Face to Face. The group includes Dana Colley (saxophone / vocals), Billy Conway (percussion / vocals / sometimes acoustic guitar), and Laurie Sargent (lead singer / lead guitar). Various bass players, including former Face to Face guitarist Stuart Kimball, also perform with the band on the road and in the studio. Twinemen's music includes a mix of jazz, blues, acid rock, and lounge.
Twinemen chose their name as an homage to Morphine's late leader Mark Sandman and his The Twinemen comic series. The Twinemen depicted three anthropomorphic balls of twine who play together in a band. Twinemen currently records in their Cambridge-based Invalid Link Removed Studios.

Beat down. Long day yesterday... Have a pretty open schedule. No meetings yet. Feel for one of our vendors, I a dick with a cattle prod. Issue is I'm getting prodded so someone else is going to feel it too.

We had a decent rehearsal. Daughter came with and hung inside the house while we beat out the jamz in the garage. I used the ATK and Garage band on the Iphone 5 over the PA. Bloody thing worked. So for the near future I'm not going to drag my live rig over there. Course if we go to the drummers other bands studio the live rig is a must.
Two new songs in the works. One is full on Wolfbregade worship... but I like it.

An old friend walked over to see us. Apparently has lived in the guitar players hood for 10 years. I haven't seen him on 25. He's younger than all of us with kids younger than his grand kids (?). Remember that conversation about more than two kids? Yeah, that guy.

My name is Mike and this is my first post in the S/D thread, but I have read and enjoyed this thread for quite a while. I recently auditioned for and was accepted into my first metal band (first band in almost 8 years). The band is called Valley and we are based out of St. Louis Missouri. We recently had our first show with me on bass, so I figured what better way to introduce myself than with a gig report. We played with several local bands; Bong Threat, Bastard and Fister and CT guys Sea of Bones. Overall I felt the show went quite well and we were very well received by the crowd. I received nothing but compliments post show from the crowd and band members alike. It was encouraging but I felt like it could have been better. My biggest issue was that I couldn't hear anything onstage other than the lead guitar, the cymbals and the snare. No kick, no bass, no rhythm guitar and no vocals. Caused me to fudge the first song pretty good until I got my bearings together to play from visual cues and memory. Gear used was a Gibson EB4 through a Tortuga Fireant > OVNI Smoothie > Eden WT550 > Eden D810(borrowed). I was up against two tube guitar amps with full stacks.

I always enjoyed the tone of Eden gear and the WT550 will always be a favorite amp of mine, but this show made it very clear that theEden is out and something with more balls is in. Fortunately, they day before the show I had a friend ask if I wanted to sell my entire Eden rig(sub a D210XST for the 810), and at the show one of the guys from Bastard told me he was selling an SVT 4 Pro at a pretty stupid low price. Also caught wind of an Ampeg SVT 810e NIB for a potentially VERY reasonable price. Hopefully come the next show, I will not have the same sonic issues and will be able to blow ear drums more efficiently. Cheers TB S/D crowd.

Let me be the first to say: you guys should really turn down. There's no way you need that much stage volume. Have you tried IEMs? You can gig with a single 10" cab, if you let the PA do the heavy work.

I think the biggest issue is selling things in the sub $20 range. The ATM is only spitting out $20's and you have a t-shirt that is $15. Sure that makes the $5 CD an easy add, but not everyone is going to want both.

Oh and as far as physically selling the merch at shows, I usually try to hang out kind of near the table, but figure if anyone there wants to buy merch before we actually play, it's because they already know us and know to come ask me. Normally I'll have our singer go to the table as soon as our set is over in case someone wants to buy something, then I take over after I've loaded off stage since I'm band dad/manager/boss/kindergarten teacher. If it's a big night like we're opening for a big band or doing a CD release, I normally try to get a cute female friend to do it because people buy more stuff that way lol.

Have you tried the JamUp app? Loads of bass amps and quite a few guitar-amps-that-sound-good on bass. It's what I use for home practice (with headphones because the walls are paper-thin) and it's awesome.
