We turned a suitcase into a merch display. Have a friend or one of us hang out with it and our storage bin.
What about the actual money part?
I try to stand behind the merch display, but I'm constantly broke and never seem to be able to make change.

Usually we get a float from the bar to cover change. I usually stick around the table and unless one of the wives is around, it goes unattended during our set.

My name is Mike and this is my first post in the S/D thread, but I have read and enjoyed this thread for quite a while. I recently auditioned for and was accepted into my first metal band (first band in almost 8 years). The band is called Valley and we are based out of St. Louis Missouri. We recently had our first show with me on bass, so I figured what better way to introduce myself than with a gig report. We played with several local bands; Bong Threat, Bastard and Fister and CT guys Sea of Bones. Overall I felt the show went quite well and we were very well received by the crowd. I received nothing but compliments post show from the crowd and band members alike. It was encouraging but I felt like it could have been better. My biggest issue was that I couldn't hear anything onstage other than the lead guitar, the cymbals and the snare. No kick, no bass, no rhythm guitar and no vocals. Caused me to fudge the first song pretty good until I got my bearings together to play from visual cues and memory. Gear used was a Gibson EB4 through a Tortuga Fireant > OVNI Smoothie > Eden WT550 > Eden D810(borrowed). I was up against two tube guitar amps with full stacks.
I always enjoyed the tone of Eden gear and the WT550 will always be a favorite amp of mine, but this show made it very clear that theEden is out and something with more balls is in. Fortunately, they day before the show I had a friend ask if I wanted to sell my entire Eden rig(sub a D210XST for the 810), and at the show one of the guys from Bastard told me he was selling an SVT 4 Pro at a pretty stupid low price. Also caught wind of an Ampeg SVT 810e NIB for a potentially VERY reasonable price. Hopefully come the next show, I will not have the same sonic issues and will be able to blow ear drums more efficiently. Cheers TB S/D crowd.

You could also be a real jerk and put up a sign saying "Exact change only". I actually saw a band put a sign like that up at their merch desk. Considering they were selling shirts for $30 and the ATM at the pub was only dispensing $50 bills, I doubt they made much on merch sales that night.

I've only used the Edan 810 once but as I recall it had a higher ratio of lows to mids than an ampeg 810e. I'd expect it to get lost in the mix easier than the ampeg.
As far as the Eden head goes, the world tour I tried took pedals great adding just alittle warmth.
How do you EQ? To suit your overdrive or your clean?

I love that High on Fire shirt, Mike. They had the same one available at their Sydney show a few weeks back but they sold out of the large size. Ended up leaving with the "Spitting Fire" design...still not bad but shag I really wanted that design.
Sounds like you've got a solid sound there, mate. Regarding on-stage sound, don't be afraid to tell the soundguy to increase or decrease the levels in your stage monitors. I used to just roll with it and play by memory or visual cues too just because I didn't want to make a big deal out of not hearing myself, the guitars or vocals etc. Overtime I realised it was affecting my own performance on stage so I started asking the soundguy to check levels when needed. AT the end of the day, that's his job so make him work for his money

The SVT-4Pro is too clean for me. Even with the gain knob dimed. Also it's too powerful for any cab I've ever owned.
Someone told me to check out this band called Nadja, but they have so many damn releases that I don't know where to start.

Aria is pretty awesome. Neck feels great, not anywhere near the EGC neck, but for what I'm looking for it's pretty great. Obviously thicker than the EGC but way more comfortable than the hondo. Body feels familiar, probably around 9 lbs. lighter than the hondo and EGC. Probably in like with my white Ric and fender I had before. It's a solid p-bass for sure.
Sounds ok, most likely putting the dimarzio from the hondo in it. Action is surprisingly good out of the box. Showed up almost completely in tune which was insane as it came from japan over the last 3 days.
Black guard is definitely in order, as is a bridge cover. The tuners feel a little loose, but still sturdy enough to keep in tune.
Gonna play it more extensively over the next few days before I bring it to a tech to swap pickups and set it up properly (needs heavier strings).
Overall real happy with this relatively impulsive purchase.
Man, that's a helluva impulse purchase. My last impulse purchase was a Black Sabbath tee for $15.
I think the Eden 810 may have been a contributing factor to the issues I was having. I do think that my sound was lost in the mix with the boom of a ported cab... although I do LOVE a ported cab for funk/jam type sounds, I just am not sure thats what I need for this bands sound. I EQ with a bump around 250Hz and a little push around 4.5kHz, as well as a push on the Bass and Treble knobs. I need to do more experimenting with freq pinpointing within the band now that I am not a "bedroom solo bass rockstar" anymore. I had my head EQed for my clean tone. I do keep my OD on all the time but on a much more mild grind... just enough for that tubey compressed sound. Although I originally EQed for totally clean I found my settings to be pleasing with the pedal on as well. But again, I will have to experiment more in a band context.

Thanks man. I love this shirt. When I saw them they had a poster with the same design and deciding which one to buy was like deciding whether to sacrifice my first or second born. And yes, I will keep that in mind for the next show. I am already hard of hearing from years of marching band and not using ear plugs with former rock bands so I actually could barely hear the sound guy when he asked me to sound check. I did try to signal him to give me more in the monitors but I don't think he saw me. I'll be more persistent or grab the mic from the lead player and let him know what I need next time.
Thanks man. I know they have gotten a lot of love and hate here on the boards, but I love it. It nails the T bird sound IMO, and it didn't cost 1.5k-2k! For that reason it will have a permanent place in my stable unless I eventually find a t bird for the right price. I also like to tap the HBs when I switch channels on the Fireant to my more aggressive tone for a bit more sizzle.
Gracias. I used to have a 3 Pro and I enjoyed the tone, but found the lack of power disturbing. The 4 Pro is not my ideal amp but the price is right, and more importantly the power is there if needed. Ideally I would love a Mesa Prodigy, but this guy is offering the 4 Pro for $500 so it will be a stepping stone amp until I can swing the price tag on a Mesa. I almost always have some degree of OD on so the cleanliness of the 4 pro is a non-issue for me.

We just grab $60-80 in small bills from the "band bank" and leave it with whoever is on merch duty. If we end up with a ton of large bills most bars will break them.

Im one of the ampeg 810 lovers in here. Its my favorite 810. If youre losing the volume war get MOAR SPEAKERS. Seriously though, the bass full stack is two 810s. Guitar full stack = 2x810s or 2x215s. Im pretty sure the svt4 is 2 ohms stable so i say keep the eden 810 if its a 4ohm cab and add the ampeg rig.
Gotcha. Sounds like you have a bit of a middle-mids scoop. Where is your enhance knob?
A suggestion for bass dirt: When playing with guitars it will sound cleaner than solo. Use more dirt than you think you need when listening solo.
