Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Don't know if yall are into video games. I try to say it like a redneck. Vid-e-rrs. "Damn kids and their videers."
Anyway. I downloaded Etrian Odyssey 4 on my 3DS. Pretty cool game so far. I've only played it for a few hours. Never really played a dungeon crawler style game before.
I love me some level grinding dungeon crawlers but really don't have the time anymore. 10 minutes a week tends to get no where in games that have hundreds of hours of gameplay. Hell 9 of those minutes are spent trying to figure out what I did in the 1 minute last week.

I just picked up a new 2DS because they were on sale for $99 bucks at Game Stop for my girlfriend's birthday. The little one has a 3DSXL and she wanted one. I don't know shite about videers LOL. I hope the 2DS is ok as they never use the 3D function anyway.

Good choice! Absolutely loved the first two, didn't get into 3 as much though. Although that might have been because I'd just finished 70 hours of getting my ass handed to me in The Dark Spire. Atlus's retro dungeon-crawlers are pretty much the only games I've put time into in years.

Haven't played video games in 2 or 3 years now. Was a big fan of Halflife, just found my copy. We had some Team Fortress servers running on a backup internet T1 cluster for years. They were some of the most popular servers available at the time. Miss those days of busting ass on a project or problem then hearing everyone in IT chucking grenades at each other.

So I picked up an OCD on my way to practice last night. I couldn't get it to sound like that video I found but I could get some decent tones when I used it with my BDDI. I guess I'll never find a one pedal solution. I've tried building stuff but there is something about the tone I like (and can get with some combinations of pedals) that I have been unable to replicate in one box. Oh well. The search continues...

On mildly related note I have a Muff pcb and a Red Llama pcb that I was thinking of putting in the same box. I haven't decided on if they'll be in series or parallel yet.

Can you guys think of a pedal that is a fuzz and overdrive in parallel?

The only one I can come up with is the Pigtronix Disnortion.

I think it would be cool to experiment with them in parallel. I could turn the gain down on one of the sides to get a clean-ish blend. Maybe I could eq each side different enough to get different tones based on the mix between the overdrive channel and the fuzz channel. I love brainstorming about gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are a hard guy to please :). I know Blackout makes a dual fuzz, fulltone gt500, and Fuzzrocious might still do custom stuff. Granted none of those fit the bill perfectly but they popped into my head. Wonder if you could build like a flipster circuit and some od/fuzz into one box and that be your nexus.

Pretty stoked, going to Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens tonight.

Luckily there is a "Casual" mode. I am not a hardcore gamer. I generally suck at video games. Not horribly. I don't want anything extremely challenging or anything haha.

I would buy a 2DS, I hardly ever use the 3d function.

Like I said before I have nothing but time. I should be practicing more though :p

Atlus is dominating! That Persona Q looks cool. I played a bunch of Persona 4 before I lost all my save data. Need to look into other Shin Megami Tensei games.
Square Enix continues to f-ck us. Atlus puts forth more effort to get games to us. I like that. I would really like to play Dragon Quest 7 on the 3ds, but that probably wont happen. Still not sure I want to spend $80 on a PS1 game.

Destiny... yeah... Newer big world Halo right? I was done with shooters after Halo 2 came out. Goldeneye still has a special place in my heart. Just not into them in this point in my life. I might get into one somewhere down the line. I miss playing games with other people in the same room. haha. I just recently got into RPGs the last few years. So the 20yrs I missed out on will keep me busy for a loooong time.

I find it absurd that I never sound like I think I should. I see people who couldn't give a poopie and plug a DS-1 into a crate and blow me away. It drives me up the wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive had that experience where I never seem to sound the way I think or want when playing live, but then have a handful of guys come up to me afterward and rave about my "tone"..
and then I go to a show a see a guy play a crap Squier with 8 year old strings play thru a beat to hell Peavey and just OWN the place and I get mad that I took a decade and tens of thousands in gear buys and sells to find what I think works.
even worse was my first rig was a Yamaha B100 into an Acoustic 106. I sold it to a friends band that we played with often to buy "real gear" only to sit in the crowd being shamed by how awesome it sounded with my exact bass! GRRRRRR.

what dont you dig about your sound?

ps... I miss you guys... I havent been on much except casually lately and Im having withdrawals.

I like acoustic basses, but I wouldn't spend a whole lot on one. It's fun to jam along with someone on an acoustic guitar.

As for vidya games I play Fallout 3 and New Vegas to a lesser extent. Haven't had time for either in months, though. I was thinking about getting Farcry 3 for a while, now that it's cheeeeep.
