Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Do you all have any opinions on Earthquaker pedals? A lot of their stuff intrigues me, but I am not sure if it is worth the $$$$. May be in the market for a fuzz soon. I have always been more of an OD person but some variety could be crucial.

I have the EQD Speaker Cranker and it is probably my favorite pedal on both bass and guitar and I have it on almost all the time. I use it to push alone for a clean boost or for a bit of dirt and to push my amp and other pedals. Great build quality on it and other stuff by them I have tried out. I want to try the Talons, Monarch, and Dirt Transmitter out if I ever see them at GC or Sam Ash.

Whats been fun is flicking my fingernails for power chord accents... Rings different that pick or fingers all together.
Going to keep toning my parts down a little to stay out of the guitar players space.
There have been times I'm doubling his attack and if not done right speed picking a bass just ends up like mush.

Oh and yeah, GET OFF MY LAWN!

Have not ventured much to Earthquaker land yet. Found Idiot Box and Abdominal Electronics have fit the bill...
But that's not to say there are others that are just as good. The Tall Font Russian from Wren and Cuff is great too.

the earthquaker guy is a friend from college , he's really cool and a great musician, in fact i'm going to see their band on thursday night in hollywood, i don't own any of their pedals but from what i've heard at the hoof and the horn and the bassacre i would definitely check out the monarch if you get a chance

The Hoof seems pretty dope. Wasn't that into the Monarch. I can't really seem to find a whole bunch of bass demos.

I wanted to rephrase, by "is it worth the $$$" I meant "Is it worth the money within my current limited budget" There is no doubt in my mind that they are worth every penny. I love boutique pedals in the same way I love craft beer. Every producer has a different take on the classics. Now if only I could find someway to make a build your own 6 pack with pedals that wouldn't push a months wages.

That thing is rad! I love how it seems to add some balls/bass to the tone, at least in the guitar demo. Also I have wanted a "More" pedal and was considering building a one knob fuzz for that function. At $105 new how do you go wrong?!?!?

Check out GC used and the I Love Fuzz classifieds. I got mine used for $70 bucks. I like how it is different than a boost pedal, it doesn't add volume, it just adds gain so easy to use at all settings. Also Prymaxe always has 15 and 20 percent off sales and free shipping so you could get it new for around $80.

Seriously getting the itch to get out there and play again. Trying to schedule a first jam with the new guitar player guy. I WANT TO PLAY LOUD!

Been on a new medicine for my migraine aura problems that is actually working and I am starting to come back to the world of the living again so I am finally thinking of looking to jam with people again. Been trying to learn some covers instead of just practicing theory and my own stuff so I don't look like the guy who doesn't know any songs more than the main riff. Probably have to drive to Richmond to find any one with similar music tastes though.

I love using my index fingernail as a pic.

Been tinkering on a couple things in the shop lately. Rediscovering what I think can be cool about sealed cabs. There's something really great about their response I just can't get any other way, though I obviously love ported cabs too

What speakers are you using for the experiment?
I'm not quite ready to spill the beans yet on the drivers. I'm just having fun and goofing around with some different ideas regarding sealed cabs. They have a magic to them for sure, but like anything in cab design, there are tradeoffs in everything.

So upper management just called and told me NOT to talk to my supervisor cause he don't work here no mo'.

I didn't like dealing with the dude but hate to see anyone canned who don't know it's coming. Big corporations are weird.

I was going to be terminated last week by surprise. Luckily bought myself 15 days that they have to provide to get FMLA paperwork put in, but I'm just going to look for greener pastures. Still, was a real shock. I had some attendance problems, but I didn't suspect that their corrective action would be simply to terminate me, especially since most were lates due to transportation issues. Ah well though.

(bah humbug)

We get at times walk ups from HR to terminate services ASAP... I don't unless there is a paper trail associated. CYA in this day and age brother.

Oh man, tried to catch up, I was about 7 pages behind or something, ended up just skimming. I've had way too much work outside the office to internet lately.

That reminds me, I wanted to hit you up about working on a sealed cab idea for me. I just don't have the scratch to fund it right now, hopefully soon.
