Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Picked up a used Mesa Powerhouse 2x15 on a whim. I hope I'm not disappointed. I was getting bored with my 8x10 and wanted to try something else. I had one a long time ago that I ran with an Acoustic 140 (my only head at the time) but was in a transitional period in my gear quest so I only had it for a month or so. This was in about 2010 B.F. (Before Fuzz).

My gear needs and wants are so different from back in the day (before I started playing dirty 99% of the time) that I'm giving a lot of gear a second chance.

Is the powerhouse the TL606 design one with the evms? If so you basically did the opposite of me. I traded my evm 215 for an 810. Those evms are really bright and aggressive, will cut through any mix. That cab will, by my ears, be the polar opposite of an 810. If that's what your looking for.

I must be getting faster as I get older. Setting up used to be an ordeal. It would take forever and then band members would disappear and then I'd stand around awkwardly trying to look busy.

Now it's like...

band before us is done->help them off->plug in my gear->tune one last time->ready to play->so is everyone else->start playing 10 minutes early.

I normally setup up my entire rig and my guitarists amps and cabs in less time than my guitarist takes to set up his few pedals...I keep telling him to get a pedal board but he refuses. But this is also the guy who doesn't use a tuner and used no pedals before he met me. Good thing hes a massive riff machine.

I quickly improvised a song in between cooking dinner tonight. Just picked out a few beats, did one or two takes for each part, jumbled them up and then fixed up the drum tracks a little to match better. Had some fun playing around with the Dunwich Cthulhu fuzz, with an EQ running into it for a little high end roll off, mid and low end bump, blended with my EBS Multidrive for a little tubby tube clean sound, with the new Carvin P bass.

Had a great GH practice. Gunitarian left his zoom thingy at the space so we did a couple quick recording and got a real good take of our song Heavy Pipe (Calumet). The drummer is gonna see if he can eq and clean it up a bit, and Ill have a track for you guys soon.

Today's missions include dismantling the SB-2 for new pots and a full shield job, folding laundry, unloading the car of miscellaneous crap emptied from my desk at the parents house, possibly heading to GC to exchange a faulty monster cable I have and learning a new tune. Any suggestions TB S/D brethren?

Reached into the kitchen sink (in the dark) for the dish towel and found the samurai blade of the blender with my middle finger. Not bad but just enough to be annoying. Will be talking to the boy again about washing this thing and putting it away after use.

I'm pretty much going to be on hiatus from playing after the end of the month. Received a feeler if I'm willing to work Thanksgiving. For double pay you bet your ass.
