Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Where is female drummer? I thought it seemed she was very interested

Standard operating procedure for my musicians search(es)...one email, never heard anything back. I don't even report on what goes on with that stuff anymore, it's a broken record. A guitarist emailed me a couple weeks ago, saying he had a sludge band and they needed a bassist and seemed like I'd be perfect. I email him back and said I was down to come learn some songs and try it out, never got back to me. Same thing happened with a guy I talked to on the phone for an hour last month, seemed really excited to jam and said he would get back to me after Halloween when the drummer was free, never called back. In general I get responses, to ads or I respond to an ad and get a reply, try to set up something and they just never get back to me.

I've responded to ads looking for session bass and recording before, sometimes together ("seeking bassist/engineer to finish our album", etc.) and gotten zero responses. Most of my session work has been for people I know or by direct referral. I've assumed plenty of times that the people who never even responded to that stuff weren't actually looking for session work or a recording engineer, they were looking for a sucker to do all that stuff for free in return for being "in the band!". I have been that chump before, it no longer interests me.

I was reminiscing with my drummer and his friend the other day of how he started playing with us. I really got lucky with him and guitar player. Especially now that there is another person writing. It's made the songs stronger. So what if we dumped three gig ready songs. What we are writing now, is the best music I've ever written. New song lets me open up my pipes and actually sing a little. The chorus is the first time I've actually done anything in what I consider, my natural voice. Not trying to gruff up anything. It's weird, but it works.

Corey, I feel for you dude. That shite sucks. Especially because I know you write good songs. I'm hoping you can get loud again, soon!

Even cooler. Glad someone could recognize it. Kept trying the peavey site to confirm and getting errors.

Just direct all early peavey questions towards me. I have the answers.

Also the GH tour is now going to be a pilgramige to the Peavey homeland. Its a little of the way but I want to stop by the Peavey HQ and see if they have a factory tour or if anyone (Mr Peavey himself) cares enough to let me bring out Peavey Henge. I know if I was Hartley Id love to see a bunch of my old amps and cabs still rockin hard.

You need more tattoos, dirtier clothes, and an IDGAF attitude. They will come to you

There's no factory left to speak of, they just moved the last of their manufacturing to China. There a distribution warehouse and a small office building. I've heard rumors of a peavey museum with old gear but it's been shuttered for at least six years, maybe more. Not trying to piss in your cornflakes, but there isn't much left to see and nothing else to do in the whole of Mississippi. If you do go don't bring any special treats, it's some serious Easy Rider style poopie going down.

Yeah, Hartley held out as long as he could but he finally had to give in this year. Over 100 manufacturing jobs in Meridian were cut, they've been testing Chinese prototypes of the classic series amps, making sure that there won't be a dip in quality. It does mean that a lot of their products will have price reductions, but it shaging sucks that it had to come to this.
