Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread Part Ten - What is this thread about again?

And power amps. I've owned almost everything in the Ampeg line (4 Pro's twice) and I would put the 7 Pro up against any of them.

Yeah. It's not even a tube/ss thing for me. I just LOVE the way this amp sounds.

Well, I don't know anything technical about it, but they don't even have the same number of tubes. They can't possibly have the same preamp.

Do you think my bass in the track I linked sounds sterile?

Has nothing to do with your track or solid state amps. And BTW I haven't checked it out yet. I have just grown to really dislike the 4pro (I've owned two of them). And my light knowledge of the 7pro led me to believe its basically the same amp. I own a solid state amp right now. Did that crappy string comparison with it last night. I just don't care for the "pro" line Ampeg offers.

I guess we have different opinions then! I think the SVT-3 Pro is a GLORIOUS amp, but has no where near the power it should.

You should listen to my track and tell me what you think. Sterile is the last word I would use to describe the 7 Pro. I have no experience with the 4 Pro.

Was playing my 3Pro last night with the -15db pad engaged, and remembered what I loved about the tone of this amp. Its easy to overload the input and your tone goes to the crapper. My biggest beef with it is that despite its celebrity endorsements and whatnot, they all seem to pump the pre with a standalone pre. Personally I found my tone in using the VT Bass to get "SVT" sound and using the 3Pro pre-amp for EQ and compression. Slight high-mid boost and ultra-low switch engaged, dub heaven. Of course you lose that magic when you turn the volume up a bit.

There's a big difference in the class D power output of the 7 pro and the standard SS output of the 4 pro. Consequently, the signal chain, Preamp circuitry, etc is all different.

Laz did you re-record war elephant with the 7pro?? I'm curious on that track since the bass sticks out more. Plus that newer recording sounds a lot better than the first, I like the mix on it. The whole thing has a darker sound and the Bluebeard really comes through. The guitars sound awesome too. I bet live in a room your guys sound is pretty crushing now. Those little Zoom's are amazing! I got one and it's the first new recording thing I've bought since my old yamaha tape 4 track I got in the 90's (which is cool but takes a lot of work to get a decent sound)

No we didn't re-record war elephant. There are two more clips from Tuesday that we recorded that are pieces of two new songs. I didn't want to post them because they're really sloppy (we were still figuring them out) but there are open parts like in war elephant where the bass is singled out more. Give me a couple of min...
