I ust picked up the new Clutch and Hermano albums and they are amazing! Definately pick one or both of these up.
Hermano features John Garcia from Kyuss and the only weak song on that album is Angry American which is the featured track on Stoner Rock unfortunately.
Clutch is...well Clutch! Great rock tunes with some meaty grooves.
I'll have the Unida and Five Horse Johnson discs by the end of the week to review

Well since this thread has been bumped, I can promote these guys King Bowman I just got home from jamming with them... looks like I'm the newest member. I will be playing a big art/music festival with them on the 27th.
They use to play grindcore/death metal, so they do have some fast parts... I've got to get my fingers up to speed. The drummer is nuts. He gives the music a Mastadon feel somewhat considering he's all over the kit most of the time, but still grooves.

Kick arse! I think we could be pretty big in the doomy scene. The recordings don't really do justice. And I actually really like the vocal approach, clean most of the time, gives it an "old school" feel. Plus the lyrics are about castles and dragons and **** like that.

Same here actually, I was jamming with this guitarist, and we were trying to start a band, but couldn't find a drummer/lead guitarist. We jammed with a temp drummer who couldn't be a full time drummer, and it sounded really good... It sounded like a mix of Kyuss and Sleep... but it was all weird freeform stuff... we didn't write anything yet. But then this band came along, I figured they would find a live bassist because they're pretty popular... but a couple weeks after I said I was a fan and was looking to start a band like this, I get a PM from the singer/guitarist and he wrote, "Are you any good at bass?"
Luckily... I'm totally awesome.
Nah, it's a big challange, a song can have like 13 riffs in it or so. I heard the ones on myspace and thought, piece o cake... but they gave me the demo and I was like, "hmmm, I'd better practice."Make sure you boo the bass player... he has to play with a pick on some of the fast tunes.
Hey, I didn't search the whole thread, but has anyone checked out "Twin Earth?" They seem pretty bad ass, they kinda remind me of new Corrosion of Conformity, but not a ripoff... at least the song "Ask for Water." Really cool stuff... I think the Orange Goblin fans would dig them.
Now if only I could get to an area with a stoner rock scene...the areas we play are mostly nu metal and hardcore right now so a lot of our music doesn't get a lot of respect around here. Hoping to move closer to MS and Chicago after my last year in school maybe kick something up there.
It seems to be gaining popularity... the thing is, you can't really call it "Stoner Rock" to get people interested. I made that mistake when putting up musicians wanted ads online. I got a couple people wanting to start a DMB or Phish type band... you need to say something like, "Looking to start a heavy, fuzzed out, trippy, groovin' rock band." Or something like that. You could mention "Black Sabbath influenced" but that will usually get you an older crowd, which can be a bit strange.
It's funny because this gig fell into my lap. I was ready to say screw it because I had auditioned for a couple bands and it was awful. All "Alt Rock" that sounded just like Nirvana rip off crap. So I was like, OK... I'm done... I'll wait a year or something, work on solo stuff... then this gig came up.

One day I'm going to start a two-piece band like Big Business, but more trippy. Maybe add loops to fill the sound and fake guitar parts.

They are a fantastic site! I bought an Orange Goblin CD from them and it came really fast. Decent prices, and they cut you deals if you buy bulk.
Tommorow is my first Stoner Rock gig. The singer has an MP3 player which can record it. If it's good quality, I'll probably post some of it up.

It's so hard to find any of their stuff. They have some on all that's heavy... but they have a large catalog... all I have is a live double disc that's of rather low quality. But it is still amazing/amazingly revolutionary.

ATH is great, I've ordered from them a few times for my Kyuss discs and some others as well a a Mastodon tee. Quite fast as long as you don't do the media mail option, took 10 days then but the last time I ordered it took 2 days to ship to my house.
I bought records from the All Thing Heavy Store and they were packed great and in perfect condition on arrival.
I've drifted a little from stoner as a genre, but the cream of that crop is still a good listen.
But the ripoffs (Black Sabbath, Kyuss, and Iron Butterfly style groups are the main ones who are ripped off) get old quickly.

One of the greatest/most original Stoner bands I've heard is Witchcraft! They get a real authetic sounds playing with real retro gear, nothing they play was made past the 70s. Plus instead of trying to be the heaviest, they take the melodic aspects of doom to the extreme!
