Orange Goblin, I have all and love them all but I would start with Time Travelling Blues and Frequncies from Planet 10.

I only have Planet 10... my only problem (I'm sure it travels through all their albums) The singer is too "Oh yeah, c'mon c'mon, bring it down now, c'mon." But other than that, it's great.

Hey, anyone who is into the Sleep stuff might like the new band Om. They are just drums and bass: Al Cisneros [bass, vocals] and Chris Hakius [drums], both ex-members of Sleep.

The album sounds a lot like Sleep's Holy Mountain, but with no guitar and huge sounding bass.

I'm slowly becoming more obsessed with this genre. I bought QotSA's "R" a week ago and have been enjoying the hell out of it.


Also I like stoner rock/metal ALOT because it's super easy to play along to. In other words it doesn't make me feel like as much of a no talent douche when I'm picking the songs out by ear.

I just came back from watching Torche again. Rocked the roof off the place again.

I was e-mailing their singer while they were on tour and he tells me that Mastadon loved them when they played together in Tampa and asked them to play again the next night in Atlanta.

Torche is going to be the next big thing out of Miami, Im sure of it.

This thread rules...I can't stop listening to High on Fire. They're so freakin great. I've been into them for a few years now, but they've been in constant rotation in my cd player for the past 2 weeks. Any recommendations for bands to check out like them?

Oh how I love that Matamp bass tone...It will be mine one day.

Got a new band in the works. The sound were going for is huge, blisteringly loud, driving, metal-inspired rock...in a nutshell. I'm looking for recommendations on good doom, metal, rock or stoner bands to listen to for inspiration.

Some of the bands we talked about drawing influence from are: old Motorhead, Witchfinder General, Cathedral, Pentagram and early Venom. Combined with some influence from the newer bands today such as High on Fire, Mastodon, etc..

Any suggestions?

Thanks man...Keelhaul, Isis and Clutch are among my favorite bands. Got some Dozer...what I've heard is awesome. Never heard Unearthly Trance, Tusk, or the others...but will check em out.

I just got the new album by Invalid Link Removed and I would reccommend everyone checking them out if they have the chance. I'd wager they're a lot weirder than most of the other bands listed on this thread, maybe more of a PCP trip than a bong hit, but definately worth checking out.

Someone might have mentioned them earlier, but I just wanted to add my two cents. I've been discovering two bands that fit the bill, I think: one is called Nebula, and the other is Dead Meadow. The Nebula record I started with is called "To The Center Of..." and my favorite Dead Meadow record of late is "Got Live.. If You Want It". Adventurous, spaced-out, heavy heavy, very interesting stuff. "Stoner Rock" is not an excuse to get drugged up and strung out, but a sonically adventurous musical form for those of us who like our tunes chunky and loud, if you ask me.

Anyone heard "Place of Skulls"?? A new project w/ Wino from the Obsessed and Victor Griffin from Pentagram. I heard one song called "the fall" and it is awesome!! check out southerlord.com to hear it.

Awesome, I'll have to check that out, Wino is the man.

I listened to a St. Vitus CD from 92 and they didn't have Wino and it was awful. The music was still there, but the vocals were weak... and the lyrics were weaker. I bleed black is a killer Vitus song... I'll have to keep an eye out for Place of Skulls.
