Strangest celebrity encounter you've had?

just last saturday i was doing a gig with a funk / dance / cover band.

were mid-tune and i notice my drummers hair looks a bit funny. then i look closer- wait, thats not tony (drummer.) i turn to the bandleader next to me and say "wheres tony? whos that?" he grins and laughs, and says "thats the drummer from black sabbath a**hole!"

i did not even notice him getting behind the drums. turned out to be bobby rondinelli. not that i particularly give a crap about him or the music he's played, but it was funny to turn around and discover someone like that sitting in, unbeknownst to me.

after the set we chatted a bit, friendly dude.

Ive been to Peter DiStefano's house in Camarillo, Ca.
I met him at a Hellride show with Mike Watt & Stephen Perkins when my friends band (actually the band that I am in now) opened up for them at some pirate radio show.
I guess my bandleader was in talks with DiStefano to record an album at his place.
My friends needed a ride, and I had nothing to do, so along I went. DiStefano offered me a Pepsi.

Ive met and hung out with Mike Watt on several occasions Ive mentioned on TB.

I was with some friends on our way to the Whisky a GoGo in Hollywood. We stopped by a Burger King and saw one of the guys from that band Crazytown (come my lady come come my lady, be my butterfly...) and my friend yelled "your band sucks" at him.

I suppose they are celebrities in the bass world. My funniest was at the first annual Detroit Bassfest when they let me and Tim Cole in the back door free because they thought we were Mike Dimin and Norm Stockton. I was Norm, although I didn't claim to be. I'm taller, about 75 pounds heavier than Norm, and definitely not Japanese, but I did have a mustache and goatee and dark hair! Tim doesn't look much like Mike Dimin either!

This is going to totally date me, but when I was in the 8th grade, we went to great adventure in NJ for our class trip, and they were filming the Mike Douglas show. :hiding:

Jimmy (JJ) Walker was very famous at the time. He was walking through the park with a couple of body guards completely ignoring people who wanted to say hi or get an autograph, and grumbling stuff with a "get out of my face" attitude. I was astounded, and too young to realize he may have just been having a really bad moment, but he seemed like a complete and total A-hole. Never liked him after that.

Shortly after that incident, on the same day, my friend and I went into one of the main eating spots to grab something to eat. The entire cast of the MD show was roped off in a corner. My friend said, "Wow, there's David Brenner!" I didn't know who David Brenner was, but noticed the guy he was pointing at looked familiar. He wasn't in the roped off section and we went over to say hi. He said, "Sit down and join me!" We did for a few minutes. He shrugged off the roped off section and said he didn't want to be roped off. I don't remember anything we talked about but remember him being a really cool and layed back happy and friendly dude. I always liked him after that.

Don't feel bad Joe. The only weird or odd one I have is from 1986.

I was driving down Hwy 17 in my 81 Nissan 200sx thinking I was a hot shizzle canyon stormer. I was screaming down from Santa Cruz to home. Back then the road was two lanes. 1 each direction. I was about halfway down when I look in my rear view and see a brand new yellow Corvette about 4 feet off my bumper. I'm 19 so ... challenge accepted!! I step it up and we just rip that stretch of road up. He was hell on wheels in the straights but I owned the many corners. Still he woulda smoked me if he coulda got around me. As we neared the bottom of the hwy it opens up into 4 lanes. He opened it up and flew past me and waved. It was a rag top and Johnny Carson was driving it. He had a huge smile on his face. I wont ever forget it :D

We may have a new winner here.

#1: I shook John F. Kennedy's hand....his limo stopped where my mom had us set up to see him on a tour route through Pittsburgh when I was like 10? (Ohio River Blvd). He couldn't play bass worth a damn though. Very outgoing man of course.

#2: I was running for an elevator in the civic center in downtown Providence a few years back and asked the guy getting on ahead on me to hold the elevator and he did. When I got on, I said, "Anyone ever tell you that you look like Ray Bourque (of the Boston Bruins)?" He said, "Yeah, they do all the time.....I am Ray Bourque!" Needless to say very down to earth and nice guy.

#3 Got a T-shirt from Farrah Fawcett (RIP) on a flight to LA once.

That is certainly an /thread comment.
Sounds like it would be a lot of fun, actually.

It was surreal. I was parked at pier 17 on the lower east side. I see a big commotion from where the 'bodies' exhibit is, and they came walking across the street.

I think they were shooting a commercial, but I have never seen it.

Lil Wayne and Gary Busey at the same time

Oh, and they were dressed as pirates

Those two were on Celebrity Apprentice together, nso you must have seen the filming of an episode. I remember that episode when they dressed as pirates. It was Mark McGraths idea.

Ok this one is going back a bit (1975 or so ). I was a wrestling fanatic when I was a small boy. I begged my Dad to take me to the big wrestling show coming to town. I was standing on the staircase to get a better view of the ring when someone bumped into me. I turned around and it was my wrestling hero, Mil Mascaras. Looking up at him standing there from my 10 year old's view was like looking at Batman or something. I was too stunned to ask for an autograph and just stood there in amazement as he walked on.

Well 1975 was 10 years after he retired from wrestling, but if u were into wrestling then you may (or not) remember Ilio DiPaulo. He owned a restaurant in my little hometown and would always go table to table greeting everyone and shaking hands. Very personable guy who everybody loved. I know I was young, but just remember how huge his hands were when he shook my hand. Tragically, he was hit by a car & died in 1995. When we buried my dad this October in a mausoleum, I noticed Ilio was just 2 spots away...so my dads body is in good company.

Many years ago, in my youth, one night I was pretty drunk, and staggered into a record shop, trying to sober up. Opened the door, walked in, and walked right into George "Mr. Sulu" Takei. He was doing a book signing and was just finishing up. I just looked at him dumbfounded and, "Holy ****, Mr. Sulu!" And I gave him a big hug. He hugged me back. That was awfully cool.

Last time I was a LAX, I passed two women as we all walked to the gates in the concourse, just before the security check. As I passed, the shorter woman and I looked at each other and we smiled, just out of courtesy. It was Jane Seymour and she looked far, far better in person than on TV or on a movie screen.

Challenge Accepted.

This didnt happen to me, this happened to my dad. Its a true story.

My dad is an avid fishermen, well it was mid summer up here in Southern Ontario, my dad was with a friend fishing a lake up by Orillia Ontario. Well they were fishing along the edge of some heavy vegatation for bass. They were in a small 14 foot boot. Well at the start of the day they noticed this brand new bass boat booting around the lake, he finally settled on a spot just abit of a distance away from my dad. Well over time this boat kept on getting closer and closer to them. They werent paying much attention to this guy.

Well finally this guy chirps up "what are you guys using ? Your nailing bass left right and centre and I cant get a single fish."

My dad was setting up his line and he thought he was going to pull a move on this guy. He grabs a worm and acts as if he is popping in his mouth, with that he lowers it and says "Ill tell you a little secret man, you gotta warm your bait. Just put the worm in your mouth for a good 30 seconds and pop that sucker on your hook and your good to go."

Well with that my dad's buddy turns around and says " Holy ****! Your Geddy Lee!" My dad said " Stop screwing around Dave" With that he turns around and Geddy Lee is standing there in the sun staring at my Pop's like he is insane. Finally my dad admits " I was just kidding man, were using frogs, let me show you my set up." Geddy immediately laughed at this, he couldnt believe he fell for this. They gave him a few frogs and set him up. They fished for the rest of the afternoon gabbing back and forth.
