Stray followed me home Saturday night...

Long story. I'll make it short.

Went in to get a Fender Blacktop or G&L. In a humbucker mood. Played my guitarists G&L a few weeks ago and just liked the sound. Guy at GC (who I have known for years) said "We dont have a Blacktop in stock but have you tried the new Dimension?"

Me: No. It's ugly. (Sorry, I [DEL]am[/DEL] was a Fender P or J bass "purist")

Dealer: Look, you already have two precisions.

Me: Three

Dealer: OK Three... Just TRY this. We have a 30 day trial period. If you dont like it, return it and you can get the Blacktop.

HO-LEE CRAP! This bass just sounded phenomenal. I thought it was just the amp but I kept changing between the Jazz and the Precision bass and the Dimension just had a big set of balls on it.

Fast forward to Sunday night at the studio. For the first time, the band had to actually tell me to "TURN DOWN!" and the singer said that she can feel the bass in the pit of her gut.

The action is unbelievably low for a right-out-of-the-box set up and the variable of sound from the three tone knobs are so wide it's great.

I am impressed.

He actually said it's a 30 day trial period? Not that you have 30 days to return it? They're essentially the same thing, but whenever a GC employee tells me the return policy it's always with a grimace cuz he knows that commission will come out of a later pay check.

Also, that's a very nice bass.

it is ugly. glad it sounds good.

I thought we were past this... :scowl:

FWIW, I dig it. Two thumbs up from me on the pickguard.

from here on out there will be no more ugly bass threads or posts tolerated in the bass forums, unless you are posting about your own instrument.

if you have a negative opinion about an instrument, be sure to tie it to something beyond the subjective appearance - "the body was uncomfortable for me to play" or "the neck was too round for me, felt like a baseball bat".

otherwise, if you find something ugly, say so if such an opinion is asked for, otherwise keep it to yourself. this isn't rocket science, guys. respect other folks' instruments.

You know, I think you are right. I cannot multi task and when I was drooling over this bass, He may have said 30 days to return it... I get distracted easilySQUIRREL!!! :D

Seems to be missing it's B String :)
Gorgeous otherwise- I'd try and get a white pearloid pick guard for it... but I have no taste :)

Actually it DOES come 5 string and HH as well.

Fender doing 'Ray clones? This is something I never expected my 'Ray GAS to encounter! I have to admit I REALLY like the looks of this Fender! (but then I'm a major ASH fan)

I want an EBMM Stingray 5er or one of these Fender V's in HH SO BAD! But the price of both is about the same and rather steep! <sigh>

Hopefully I can find a used EBMM HH stingray 5er which won't happen for some time with the new Fender.

I have been on the fence about this model. Our local shops have not had one to look at or try in person. Yours looks very nice. Love the natural finish. Thanks for the brief review on the tone.
I think you may have helped me out. Hmmm... may have to investigate further.
