Street Racing

My cousin raced on occasion in Brooklyn. He had a black 98 Honda Accord Coupe, the 4 cylinder one with stock 150hp. The only mod I think that was on that one was a new air filter. But I can tell you, the car sure seemed like it had mroe around 200hp than 150. Once on the Van Wyck Expswy(495) a guy in a Mustang GT decided he wanted to give him a challenge... the Mustang lost.

I know that whenever I get enough money tobuy and maintain my own car. It will be a 1995-96 Chevy Impala SS. I want to either give it a Lengenfelter Turbo outfit or just install a supercharger myself along with enough mods to make the car atleast run in the 11's-12's. And I'd assume I need about 500hp and atleast 450lb/ft or tourque and about 400-600 lbs off that monster of a cars weight.

A goal of running low 13's with that big of a car would be more realistic and easier to attain (and pretty darn cool, imo).

You'll need cubic dollars to make that car run in the 12's, let alone 11's. And, ime once you start running mid 12's you'll really be testing the limits of stock items like connecting rods, axleshafts etc.

Anyone got a link to the scca or what ever it was(I'm to lazy to go back a page)

Ive always wanted to try autocross for fun plus my car might have a chance with all its 120hp
Invalid Link Removed Click on "Find a Region Near You".
They actually have it set up so that you will have a chance. All cars are put into classes of similar vehicles, and you compete against them. So you shouldn't have to worry about being up against a Porsche or something.
You don't have to be a member to race (at least here) but it does cost more if you aren't. It's $20 for non members here. You have to get there pretty early and register. Then you can walk the course and get an idea of how it is. It's a good idea to grab an experienced member and get them to give you a few tips. You will also need a helmet. If you don't have one, they probably have some loaners.
Also there usually is a school offered at the begining of the season. It's worth doing if you have the time and $.

You run it on a dyno yet?

Only on "Desktop Dyno", not a real one.

Desktop puts it at right around 700 horses, and the power to speed to weight calculators you find at most speed shops puts rear wheel hp right at 600.

Based on how the car runs and how much it weighs (3600 with me in it) I figure both to be fairly accurate.

...i may be gettin old but give me my big block chevrolets...

Yeah, baby! Big-blocks are a lot like Filipino women... once you've had one, you don't wanna go back to anything else...;)

I had some pretty badass cars in my younger days:1970's- '70 Plymouth Roadrunner (383 cu.in., 3-speed on the floor), '77 Trans-Am (yanked all the pollution-control crap, added headers and wheels... that's about it); 1980's- '65 Mustang (289 cu.in., 4-speed), '77 Camaro (4-speed, yanked the 350 cu.in. and replaced it with a 454 cu.in., headers, other goodies... simply awesome) '85 Monte Carlo (bought in in '88, pulled the 305 cu.in. and replaced it with a crate 350cu.in./400hp that I bought from Sallee Chevrolet... simply marvelous...); 1990's- '91 Chevy 3/4-ton p/u truck (bought it new, 454 cu.in., 3 years later I swapped the 3-speed for a heavy-duty automatic tranny, modified the throttle-body injectoin system with an Edlebrock set-up, and Edlebrock header set; Flowmasters); '79 Corvette (replaced rusted-out headers with ceramic coated Hookers... that's all this car needed!)...

...I know I'm getting old: 2000's- I still have my classic '65 Cadillac Coupe deVille, and my daily driver is a '00 Mercury Grand Marquis (I put a hypo-chip and Flowmasters on it... runs great, and sounds like a Mustang! Hell, it's a Ford, and everyone knows Fords will run on coal... :D )...

...next purchase: I'm kinda liking that Dodge Magnum. Seems like a great vehicle for hauling around a bass rig. I'll probably get one toward the end of this year...

Street racing is stupid... any mature, sane person knows that! Lotsa death and destruction has happened out here in Paradise due to stupid children behind the wheel of many a souped-up rice-burner... and let us not neglect to mention the real idiots who rip-up the pavement on their crotch-rockets! Nothing like a little teeth, hair and eyeballs splattered all over the pavement from one of those brave fools... :rollno: That happens out here every once in awhile, too...
