Double Bass Strings for Ampeg baby bass

S42 are NOT solo strings but Medium 4/4 orchestral tuning. The S43 are 4/4 Solo strings.
The 3/4 are the 388x,y sets. Y=0 for the set, I cannot remember the x values for Solo and orchestral.

Thank you! I found a chart: the 3/4 Solos are 3886,0. The 3/4 Orchestra are 3885,0. Are the 3/4 Solos accessible here in the US? Based on responses and what I've read, most people opt for the S43 (4/4 Solos). My concern is with the length and overloading the pegs with excess string.

If you are afraid of the tension damaging you tuning machines, get the S43, they are the least tension Spiros you can get.
If others use them on an Ampeg BB, you can use them too unless your instrument is damaged or parts are worn out.

Have a look at my excel file in my Dropbox about string tension (link below in signature and in string sticky) at the same vibrating string length. Also downtuned Solo string tensions are included.

For the length and maybe cutting have a look here: Baby Bass megathread

You are a bass-cyclopedia! Thank you for all the information and advise.

I read through all 62 pages of the mega thread a few nights ago - I enjoyed the educating myself on the idiosyncrasies of the Ampeg BB very much.

What kind of tailpece does your BB have?
The one I had about 20 years ago just had a string holder at the end of the body.
With this one, full size strings were preferable.
Some BB have some kind of tailpiece, similar to a DB:

These may prefer a 3/4 size string, I don't know for sure.

My bb’s tailpiece is just like the one on the picture you provided - after speaking with Ray Ramirez, he mentioned that the 4/4 strings are very popular for the Ampeg BB - maybe because they are more readily available than the 3/4 option. Also, the 4/4’s will provide even lower tension to the 3/4’s, which is preferred by many. I’m going to give them a whirl without cutting them, and if I feel I should go for the 3/4’s, I can always turn around and sell the 4/4’s.

Thanks again for the information! :)

How did those work out?
