I have never heard anyone say anything about ribs. The lack of good BBQ in Philly is appalling.

Generally, the cheesesteak needs to be replaced by the roast pork with provolone and spinach (I guess broccoli rabe if that is your thing), much better sandwich.

Yes...you will.
Pat's & Geno's...whatever. Athough they both get the hype & the Food Network TV specials, there are far better cheese steaks in south Philly than theirs.
Tony Luke? VEAL!...as in a Veal Cutlet sandwich. That's their "thing".

Pastries?
Potito's on Ritner & Bancroft...down the street from Primo's Hoagies.

Pretzels?
Philadelphia Prezel factory on Oregon Ave (near the Stadiums).

Water Ice?
...I would be open for suggestions. Last time up I was not impressed with what I had.

EDIT-
Damn! Ya gotta have a Roast Beef sandwich from NICK'S...20th & Jackson.
One (or both) of those Food Shows...Guy Fieri &/or the Adam-dude from Man v. Food will testify...the best sandwich they have ever had on their shows...

Seriously....how could a visitor to Philly not stop at one of those joints? You guys who live there know better, but a visitor needs to stop by at least one of those joints so they can say they went. Then they can go get a better sandwhich somewhere else.

It's like when people would visit us in Washington State. We'd take them to the original Starbucks in Seattle to get a drink so they could say they went, then take them to somewhere like Uptown Espresso or Cafe Ladro for a real coffee drink.

Thankfully you Philly guys are chiming in with all the real gems of the city.

Why in the world doesn't someone take all the culinary wisdom of these numerous "Where to eat in _____?" threads and write their own book rivaling Zagat or Fodor? A musicians guide to eating on the road; all the hole in the walls worth eating at.......

My parents were Philly natives and they both hated scrapple. My mother's description, "Spam is what they scrape off the table, head cheese is what they scrape off the floor, scrapple is what they scrape up off the floor from under the barrel they put the head cheese in." But I love it. Last time I had scrapple was about 2 years ago at the Bishops Collar for Sunday brunch while visiting my son who's living in Philly now...he doesn't like scrapple either, neither does my wife....more for me. :)
