Stuff you hate to hear another Bassist Say

I just hate when bass players pretend that they are good when they are not at all. The said part is when I was younger I used to be a little like that, but never as bad as some of them are. Just listen to Jaco or manring and all pride will be wiped away forever.
"Dude, i thought you came here to try a bass?"

that last one was technically a guitarist.. but he plays a LITTLE bass, thus making it valid

i think i might have the worst......it was said by a guitard, not another bass player....and i qoute-
"Playing bass is just an excuse for being bad at guitar, anyways a bass is just like a crappy guitar that's missing two strings"
-by the way...I set next to this moron in 2 of my classes.

I tend to get "eeew, why play bass? it's so dull" from my Friends that listen to the Fall Out Boy branch of 'music', whereas anyone i know that listens to
a) Pre-90s
b) Funk, blues or jazz
goes "Bass? awesome!"

No, in either case a metronome is a bother. You absolutely do not need a metronome to play in tempo. Fundamental shmundamental. Metronomes are useless pieces of junk and you'd get a better sense of time playing along with KISS!

I had no idea that Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Idaho Falls, ID USA were trapped in a vortex in time and space that forces them to exist in the same point in space at the same time, rotating around that one music store... Weird.
I had just bought a Ricky 4003 bass, sunburst red and showed it to a "friend" of mine who had been playing bass for much longer than me and he says
"nice plastic bass" and I'm like "plastic?"
You should play a good woody bass, like my Gibson Maurauder and I'm looking at him like...*** dude! Plastic bass my butt!

It generally hacks me off a fair length when I tell another bassist that I'm mostly a guitar player, and they say something to the effect that it means I'm automatically just some dumbass and I think I can play bass because I can play guitar and they're sort of similar instruments.
Because it's totally unimaginable that anyone would know how to play two instruments to a good standard, right?

Actually, for guitar players its spelled "dum-bass"
And my bass teacher was one of hte best guitarists I ever met. And anyone who called his bass playing into question upon finding that outwould get schooled. In a hurry. even if its unpopular, I know what you mean. (And I do suck at guitar)

Ugh-Hugh. and I guess that's why the neck is so damned long, hugh? I'll get a 5 or 6 string when they start only putting 7 frets on a bass neck. Until then, I'll move my arm a little.

In the same vein, "all good bass players today use active electronics to get good tone, put a pre-amp in that thing so it doesn't suck."
Apparently having an EQ on my amplifier is not good enough =P
I'm sure this has been mentioned before but the thing I most hate to hear another bassist say is, "uh dude, sorry about your amp."
I'm pretty sure Glen Letsch's book "stuff good bass players should know" pretty much sums it up. Everything from his opinion on how many effects you should use (ie: never more than one at a time 
:scowl to how you ALWAYS pluck M I M I, and your thumb must ALWAYS rest on the string before the one you pluck. His way of teaching seems to be "my way or the highway." Bleh. I've disregarded most of what he has to say, exept for his stuff on scales, chords, and arpeggios (the important stuff

Unfortunately, our lead guitarist is obsessed with that book. He thinks it's the defitive guide to being a bassist. He calls it Godly. This why we call them guitards

It seemed as though, to them, because I was a bass player, that I couldn't hear as well as "they" could.
Or, one time, I was riffing on Miller's "Rampage" and I had a guitard come along and tell me "Slap bass is for the 70's and porn. New bass players use a 5 string and a pick".
(I was playing a 6 string Brice HXB-406)
(It was at this point where, If this had been a dream, I would have taken my bass and split him in half with it. Then I would wipe down the strings, just for good measure)
