Subway+ Bass DI-Preamp II

I'm also upset to hear this didn't work out (I feel responsible with advocacy), but completely understand your position. If time weren't an option, I'm pretty curious what discovery would be made here at the end of the day. There are a lot of variables to cover, but I'd still bet money on something too hot somewhere.

This is by no means a monster or a professional board, but even with throwing very hot signals from other pedals (DG is at 18v too); I am not getting any sort of bad behaviors unless I am intentionally pushing things way out of place via lots of input. Current settings on stuff isn't any sort of reference. Signal is going:
Bass>BC1X>Lysis>JHS>Microtubes>Space>Dig>Subway; this goes into the front end of a TH500. (Tuner is fed from DG parallel output). Dog hair stays on the board for extra harmonic content register (I need to vacuum please no bully)

I would say this isn't worth giving up on, but if you gotta return it, you gotta do what's right for you at the end of the day.

By itself it's mostly fine. I can get it to clip by itself too. Unless the issue is my bass. I didn't try my other dingwalls but I'm not experiencing the same thing with the other preamps. Pretty similar settings and lower gain/volumes. I started adding one pedal at a time and once I got the higher gain stuff, even at unity it would just be nasty. I'm not experiencing this with other preamps. I even swapped cables just to be sure.

So my blending trick. I find blending the Subway pre driving hard with the WD clean is an option. Now I need to find out how it is in reverse, WD hot, Subway pre clean 😊

Sorry to keep jumping in here.

I just fell into another thing I like about the two preamps. I like to use pedals, but sometimes even when the pedals are bypassed it seems to affect the tone of my bass. I can now set up one pre to an optimal bass tone by itself and the other pre with the pedals. Instead of me uncoupling my bass from the pedal chain and plugging in directly into the amp once I am done with the pedals. Now I can just switch from the pedal channel and go to the naked bass channel 👍

So many possibilities 😊

There is some input tube emulation going on in the drive stage.

That’s what most players asked for throughout the Subway line, the Subway 115 is the most neutral cabinet in the line (closest to FRFR, but with some mildly controlled flavor).

My method is:
Plugging my bass into the amp’s Instrument Input, in my case it is the WD.

Taking the Tuner Out from amp, into the Subway+ preamp’s Instrument Input.

Take the Subway+ Preamp Output back into the Amp’s Aux In to the power amp.

Then using the Mute Switch on either one to turn each one off or on.

Turn the Subway+ mute on to hear just the amps internal preamp.

Turn the amps mute on and the Subway+’s mute off to just hear the Subway+ only.

Turn both mutes on to hear nothing.

Leave both mutes off to hear both at the same time and use the Master Volume on the Subway+ and the Gain Control on the amp to balance between the two to blend the two to your liking 👍

The Master Volume on the amp is the overall master volume for the whole Sugarree 😊

Just got my Subway preamp. Sounds great! Sounds great - very much like a mini subway. HAve had it running off of a 9v battery for several hours - really does sip power. @agedhorse - I'm running it off of a Lion 9v battery - anything to look for when the nominal voltage is 8.2-8.4v? I am assuming it'll just have a little less headroom? Thanks! Great pedal btw - I'll have it a rehearsal this weekend for the first time trying with the guys and getting some recordings of how it sounds in the mix.
