Sucky PA gets Cops attention!

I always catch a lot of flack from modulusman for owning a 'sucky' Kustom PA. Well my sucky PA annoyed a neighbor enough to call the cops and they made us shut it down. So much for my annual BBQ Jam session....at least for this year! LMAO I only use it for my backyard shindigs but it's more than adequate! Trust me.

8 years in a row without incident! PA may be 'sucky' but it works and is loud. We were going for it big time. I kinda knew the cops were gonna show up! We were funkin' out big time! The system puts out quite a lot of bottom.

We usually do. I think it was the folks on the next block over behind our house. My sister in law went by all the neighbors on our street and all said the music was no problem and they were enjoying it! Admittedly, we were cranked up and I was thumping away but it was 3 in the afternoon! Who the hell complains at that time!? The cops were nice though but they did say if they had to come back they were gonna arrest me! Unbelievable! SMDH

Know the local ordinances for having outdoor events where loud music will be played BEFORE you have the event. Most municipalities have fairly straightforward guidelines, sometimes require a permit, but in my experience, neighbors are usually out if luck until after 8 or 9pm, at which point the cops will enforce the local laws. Still a good policy to at least inform your neighbors of the event, if for no other reason than to let them know that you've done your homework and have the legal issues sussed out, you know your rights under the law.

Bummer that people suck.

Yeah, they cited some 50 foot rule BS. If they can hear you from 50 feet away, they can force you to turn it down or go to jail! I'm from NY and I've never heard of that. The 10pm rule seems to be a universal law. We were gonna shut it down at 6pm anyway! Anyway, here's another video. We turned it down way low at this point. The drummer was still bangin' away! LOL!

If I was your neighbor I would have called the cops if I had to listen to your Kustom PA also. If you were using my PA no one would have complained because it sounds so good. lol

I've also played there numerous times (but not in the last couple of yrs).
Gigs were usually 7-11pm and a couple of yrs ago.
We're playing on the patio stage about to take a break before our final set, and a cop appears about 6 feet in front of the stage with a meter. Unbeknown to us - the city instituted a noise ordinance.
Takes his reading and puts it away. We finish the song and the cop walks up to the lead vox and say.. you guys are OK. You can keep playing and finish out your night!! (Gee thanks!)
The neighbors regularly call the cops in on that venue.. bands have been shut down and sent home for being too loud.

Around here, most venues are away from residential for that very reason. The ones close to residential have had to suspend live music due to complaints. I'm looking at obtaining a block party permit next year and see if I can use it just for my backyard instead of having the city block off my street. We'll see.

They never threatened arrest, but they did promise confiscation with a $200 a piece return fee. Needless to say, shortly after the 2nd call in another county I stopped dj'ing.

Hahaha. Yeah it seems we HAD a different set of rules and higher levels of tolerance than most places I've been. Well at least before the Guillianni administration took over. Things seemed to change when he took the helm. I decided to break camp when I went through my first road block in the South Bronx. And go figure, I moved to a place to where they have them constantly . LMAO

How dare you elevate funk over metal. I'd certainly give a metal band more volume allowance before calling the cops than somebody funking out. I'd take thrashing riffage over slap/pop funk slathered in horns.

50 ft is BS. That's one one city house lot. Even 50 feet from the property line is BS. Lot's of cops and property managers really don't know the local noise ordinances. I had a back neighbor who did commercial woodworking out of his residential garage (against code) but the local cops said I had to put up with the noise (30 ft from my music room) until 10 p.m. But for the some reason cops from the same station have no problems telling the local kid down the block that he can't practice his drums at 4:00 in the afternoon until he get's the garage soundproofed.

In most places, if someone calls a cop to complain, they will usually send someone out to check it out and warn. Doesnt matter what time it is...lots of people work night shifts are are sleeping at that time. I think me and my brother (a drummer) have some sort of state record for cops being called when we were jamming growing up. Not once did we get anything more than a cop asking to keep it down so I never really cared. But we always thought it was up to a certain time like 11 pm, but our local cops said no, it can be anytime if we are disturbing the peace. Stinks, but Ive been on the other side of that too so I understand. Like I said, Ill get upset when I have to pay a fine or get gear confiscated, not before.

Seriously though, we were sounding pretty damn good. And the neighbors on MY block were loving it.

I have a Kustom PA -- I've done about 50 gigs with it in the last two years and no problems.
