Sucky PA gets Cops attention!

When i was a kid my folks had a party that carried on into the wee hours of the morning. (In Cape Town SA)
One of the neighbours complained.
The cops came twice - the 2nd time they were invited to join the party.
They hung up their gunbelts and ended up swimming in the pool in their undies and drinking beer and dancing....! Haha....only in SA....Totally cool cops!

How dare you elevate funk over metal. I'd certainly give a metal band more volume allowance before calling the cops than somebody funking out. I'd take thrashing riffage over slap/pop funk slathered in horns.

I wouldn't elevate it over. I play metal or at least old school hard rock as you would call it now. I was only saying that most in the general public will tolerate funk over metal and rap. Either way it's too bad. You have some uptight neighbors it seems. I would have been happy to hang on my porch & listen with a beer (if not come over and say hi) if this was going on in my neighborhood.

Know the local ordinances for having outdoor events where loud music will be played BEFORE you have the event. Most municipalities have fairly straightforward guidelines, sometimes require a permit, but in my experience, neighbors are usually out if luck until after 8 or 9pm, at which point the cops will enforce the local laws. Still a good policy to at least inform your neighbors of the event, if for no other reason than to let them know that you've done your homework and have the legal issues sussed out, you know your rights under the law.

Bummer that people suck.

Personal experience. I have called cops several times when volume has been unreasonable (beyond a joke loud) and I have had very young children. 10pm doesn't help much when they are asleep before 7.

I will say, I haven't had issues before dark though.

Yeah, they cited some 50 foot rule BS. If they can hear you from 50 feet away, they can force you to turn it down or go to jail! I'm from NY and I've never heard of that. The 10pm rule seems to be a universal law. We were gonna shut it down at 6pm anyway! Anyway, here's another video. We turned it down way low at this point. The drummer was still bangin' away! LOL!

Laws are constantly changing. In many states you can get a ticket if the stereo in your car can be heard more than 50 or 100 feet away. When I was younger, I played many outdoor house party gigs but to be honest, if I was trying to enjoy a quiet afternoon with my family and there was a band playing loud music that I didn't like (such as rap, hip hop, death and doom metal), I would probably be pissed too. Just because its your party, doesn't mean it has to be everybody's.

When I was younger, I played many outdoor house party gigs but to be honest, if I was trying to enjoy a quiet afternoon with my family and there was a band playing loud music that I didn't like (such as rap, hip hop, death and doom metal), I would probably be pissed too. Just because its your party, doesn't mean it has to be everybody's.

Maybe it's just me but this doesn't show a lot of respect for neighbors:

We turned it down way low at this point. The drummer was still bangin' away! LOL!

actually, in NN, the cops were BS'ing you. Not much they can do until 10:00PM.I used to live up in CW and played some outdoor gigs on the peninsula. One, when the cops were called (during the day, just like you), we just turned the mains around to face the wall. which reduced the projection issue. Cops called by the neighbors on a jazz gig, yet... . But did you offer the cops some BBQ?

I can accept this. I get it. We were loud. The neighbors need to accept their sh** too. I have to listen to constantly barking dogs! The minute I hear something from them now, I'm calling the cops. Works both ways. I don't complain as long as it's quiet by 10PM which most times it's not. It's all good. I plan to have a word with them though. To be continued.

Of course. They were nice. I didn't have a problem turning down. Just soured our once a year shindig. Getting a permit next year!

I have a Kustom PA -- I've done about 50 gigs with it in the last two years and no problems.

When you start playing something besides jazz at elevator music volume let me know how well you like your kustom PA then.

Not even close. If you want to sound decent buy some powered speakers in the 4-$500.00 range and a passive mixer. I picked one of these up Saturday and used it as a monitor at a wedding and then as my bass amp yesterday at a small bar gig. Invalid Link Removed one of these will be louder than a pair of kustom PA cabs and sound way better. Seven year warranty where as Kustom offers one year on there speakers because they know they suck.

Then, about two weeks ago I got booked for a huge auditorium (700 plus people) and I was concerned it wouldn't have the power.

So, I recently upgraded to a set of LWave 15"'s from seismicaudio....

They are heavier than your Yamaha's, but there was an $80 off deal (total cost to the door was $420), and the Frequency Response was deeper into the low end than any other speaker in that price range I could find at the time. 38 Hz - 20 kHz -- as a bass player, I wanted to be able to play through it on gigs when I didn't have the subwoofer to borrow from a friend.

The Kustoms can either daisy chain out the back of the powered speaker that connects to my passive mixer main outs (I checked with seismic to make sure I wouldn't blow anything), or I can run the Kustoms through a monitor channel from my Behringer passive mixer and a Crown amplifier.

My next stop is my own subwoofer when the time is right, with the right band...

Well I guess if you consider seismic audio an upgrade. Do an internet search on a real sound forum and they are considered as bad as Kustom. I wouldn't believe those specs BTW. Notice they didn't show how many dbs down at 38hz. If you compare them with speakers costing 5 to 6 times the price you will notice that they don't go down to 38hz. too good to be true for a $250.00 speaker. They are also real proud of them and offer a 1 year warranty.

Well I guess if you consider seismic audio an upgrade. Do an internet search on a real sound forum and they are considered as bad as Kustom. I wouldn't believe those specs BTW. LOL! Anywhoooo..............like I've said previously I only use my Kustom rig in my backyard (I own other gear) but if I had to use it in a bar/club in a pinch, it would definitely hold it's own.
