not precisely true. the necromancer was loosely based on tolkienesque themes (sauron was known as "the necromancer" during "the hobbit" era, before his true identity was known).
rivendell isn't "very bad" it's just not very good, imo, but that's cool

You could get one from the Fender Custom Shop but it'll be costly.Does Fender make that bass for regular humans?

Okay, granted, the Necromancer, but I honestly try to forget that song too. Very bad, not very good, whatever, either way I always skip Rivendell. Same with the Necromancer. I don't think I do that on any other Rush albums, but maybe that's just me. If I want my Lord of the Rings fix I'll listen to Blind Guardian or Glass Hammer, haha.
'under the shadow' (the necromancer, part 2) is a rush fave of mine!

Personally I prefer Lake Placid Blue ...
Black blocks and binding or white(pearloid) blocks and binding on a maple neck or whilte on a rosewood board scream vintage look and work well on ANY color bass!
That exact combo (Sunburst w/ balck blocked maple neck) is IMHO "The" classic 70's Jazz bass. It brings back memories of models I saw hanging on the rack at the music store where I took guitar lessons as a child in the mid 70's.
I've always wished Fender would produce a sunburst Geddy. If they actually do, I think I'll have to break down and buy another fretted four string, although I swore that with the drastically customized Precision and Rick, in addition to the Spector Euro that I already have, I should be set! But that bass would be impossible to pass up!

I stand by my opinion - I don't think SB looks good with black block maple boards. White blocks maybe.
I think they already have a signature bass - the black one with black blocks on maple and white guard. Any other bass isn't really a signature model to me - IMHO.

I just got the black one, so they best not pull a sunburst on me anytime soon.
RE: Ged's red flametop J, does anyone know what song(s) he uses it on? I know he plays the black J for most tunes, plays the Jaco fretless for Malignant Narcisissim, and pulls out the Ric for Passage to Bangkok.
Any particular reason he uses the red flame J, ie, sounds different etc, or does he pull it out 'just because'?
