Sunburst Geddy Lee signature?

I think it looks fine, with the sunburst and tort pickguard w/ maple board, or a sunburst with white pickguard w/ maple board. Geddy likes the maple on the jazz bass. Geddy gets what Geddy wants.

No, they're not, UNLESS you're the frontman/bassist of a certain 3-piece rock band from Toronto that's toured the world more times than I've had... uhm... nevermind. YEAH! And because HE had black blocks in his Jazz Bass, that's what the sig models are copying.

In short, if they don't have the black blocks on maple, it really can't be a GL sig, can it?

Awwww, be nice to Presto! There were some great tracks on that album . . . also some not-so-great tracks *cough*HandOverFist*cough*Anagram*cough*. Rivendell to me just sounds like either a bad Led Zeppelin imitation or like a song some friends of mine in high school would have made. Either way, not so good.

Not a bad point, but I don't think Les Paul ever imagined his signature guitar to have a skull inlays on the fingerboard, tiny humbuckers, or a sculpted neck heel (a la Neil Schon).

I personally think that the GL bass should have graphite stringers in the neck and the truss rod adjustable from the headstock (or spokewheel like Stingrays).

I think ALL basses should have spokewheel truss rod adjustments and be DONE with the stupid allen key crapola. But instead of aiming for "a better instrument", they're aiming for "the same bass that Geddy played all this time, and now YOU can own one, too!" It just HAPPENS to sound fantastic.

And Les Pauls are not "signature models" of another instrument, like the GL Jazz Bass... it's ITS OWN MODEL, and far more worthy of respect and admiration IMHO. And I can say that because Geddy was the reason I became a bass player!

Think about it - how many people are surprised that there's actually a GUITARIST named "Les Paul" that you've met? The guitar is far more iconic than the man (shame, really, but them's the breaks I guess).

I think that certain bass player could rock a Squier or SX, but that still doesn't make black block inlays very attractive, IMO.
I think pearl or mother of pearl or abalone, etc. looks a lot better, but hey, it's all about the tone, right?

Again, while I might like the pearl just as much as the black, it ain't ever gonna happen on a GL Jazz. No more likely than Gene Simmons' signature line of basses including a chainsaw to go with the hatchet.
