Whole lotta retro and James Brown tribute. NIce execution and some cool lighting/atmosphere stuff. Interesting blend of Motown and 70s disco funk too. Though I was there and still can't figure out why the 70s are so hot.

Super Bowl halftime

Bruno Mars was great, loved the gold sparkle bass (my favorite bass is a P body with a j neck, loved it). Loved that they were actually singing. Loved the RHCP, nice of Bruno to give them a nod and have them play, great energy. would have been a better match if they would have written some cool horn lines or something to play along with them.
From a production perspective, it was full of unrealized ideas. They didn't even have a good camera shot to see the drums moving from the middle of the field to the stage. Not sure what they were planning to do with all of the light cells on the field, but they were another of the totally underutilized gaffs. Should've spent half as much on fireworks and twice as much on staging. Not sure what the director was seeing most of the time, they grabbed a lot of the big stage and lighting changes in time, but mixed it up with some pretty lame shots.

Definitely. That was a seriously good performance. I'm not even particularly patriotic, but It was like finally hearing the anthem the way it was meant to be heard.
Pepsi really needs to get back to the classic Pepsi globe.
*something I liked about this Halftime show is that they figured out a way to make the songs feels like full songs. Instead of cycling through a different song every minute. I have always disliked those types of performances at big televised shows.

Were they though? I've always heard that with any performance like this, they lip sync over a real live track that was recorded in an earlier rehearsal.

Right afterwards, the FoxSports MC commented-

Very cool, unexpected beginning with Mars' drumming.
For what the 1/2 Time Show is...I also thought it beat the Hell outta whatever has been trotted out there these last few years.
In a more controlled environment, the drummer can give it away (No pun intended).
I just watched The Doors' performance on a late '60s/B&W American Bandstand...Densmore (not a heavy hitter) is more light than normal & misses a major roll out of the "Light My Fire" solos. Damn...

Bruno Mars doesn't belong on the same stage as RHCP.
...he would not be the 1st guy that had a Jazz neck put on a P-bass.
My '78 Schecter P-bass has a Warmoth Jazz neck (no Blocks/Dots, thank you)...my '64 P-bass, during the early '80s, had a very thin Fender Jazz neck (Dots, no Blocks).
This is done because the P-bass neck can be chunky for some of us.
And not a fan of the Blocks...
No, right.. Bruno's vocal talent and killer band with his showmanship and throwback taste just couldn't possibly stand up to a 50-year-old with a hipster mustache singing his decade+ old last good song
Edit: i grew up on RHCP, don't get me wrong. But Bruno mars is talented and undeserving of the same perceived value as Rihanna or One Direction

Fact is , Bruno is OBJECTIVELY, talented; surprising drummer, great singer and dancer, holding alot of fans with throwback nods and sincere pop music in an age where faux-wierdness and saying 'swag' is king. Not to mention that Bruno , in today's industry, is/has paying dues that didn't EXIST when RHCP was paying theirs. But until youre a singer, drummer, pianist, dancer, and millionaire
Prince was definitely the best ever.
RHCP are NOT "one of the best bands ever". Not by a long shot. They have had a long and successful pop career and that deserves respect but when I think of the best bands ever, it would take me a loooooooong time to get to them.
