Only the mahogany and black finished IIs come with the piezo. If you have a different color it's a $100 option to add one and yours may not have it.

FWIW I don't think you'd be missing anything if yours didn't have one. I've got the piezo on my Huntington I and I'm totally unimpressed by it.

It for sure can add some clank to the bass, but the regular pickup (s) sound so good, they don't benefit from adding the piezo too much to my ear. There have been times when I've added it when playing live when I wanted some more high end to cut through a mix with unruly and misbehaving guitarists.

The piezo pickup itself seems to only add more treble. I would go as far as to say that it is a tone control more than anything. With the piezo engaged and the control knob rolled all the way off, it sounds the same as the piezo OFF and the control rolled all the way on. Rolling the piezo in just adds sizzle and clank depending on your attack.

Helps with fuzz harmonics alot! Palm muted picking makes it sound pretty cool as well, getting all the attack with a muted tone is neat with guitarists that like a dark tone.

Three reasons I personally use it a lot:

1. I like it a lot because as an old DB and EUB guy the piezo tone is what I hear as my "clean bright" sound.

2. I use a very light touch on BG nowadays with a classical-guitar-like right hand technique, and the piezo gives me the range to emulate slap or pick technique without actually changing up my core right hand thing.

3. I'm using amp and effects models now, and the piezo can really do some neat stuff with distortions, choruses, and delays. You can treat it like an effect all its own, and the same fuzz patch will sound totally different when you engage the piezo.

All that said, I actually don't think most bass players would like it or use it a lot with their current play styles and rigs, and that's totally fine. It's inclusion is definitely a niche thing that just happens to REALLY jive with the specific stuff I'm doing now.

Threw some Hipshot 3/8" (import) tuning machines on mine. The small screw on the back was just a hair off on each, but they went in fine. So far they hold intonation much better than with the stock machines.

Which ones? The "Licensed Ultralights" or the "USA Ultralights"? They differ slightly.

Comparing the dimensions now, I think the USA Ultralights might fit just a bit better. The distance from the center of the gear to the small back mounting screw is a bit shorter on the USA version (0.439" USA vs 0.457" Licensed). Just guessing though!
