Hi. I just traded in my Bass Rig for a SM900 Head and two 4x10 (8 OHM) Goliath IV Speaker Cabinets. I'd like to become a member of the SWR Fan Club , but I don't know how because I am new to this Forum. I just traded in for my new SWR equipment this Friday (3-6-09) and I haven't had much time to mess with the settings yet. I play in a classic rock cover band , but I do add in some slapping and popping here and there. If anyone can give me some advice on how to set the EQ for my new rig I would greatly appreciate it. Is it better to set the equalizer select in 1+2 , or use the selectable footswitch to switch between 1 and 2 for certain situations?? Another question that I have is what mode is better for running my two 8 OHM 4x10 Gollaith IV Cabinets in ( Stereo or Bridged/Mono )??? Since the Mono/Bridged Mode only has one Speakon Output , do you piggy back one cabinet off of the other cabinet and if you do does that take it down to 4 OHMS?? Since I use two 4x10 Cabinets , should I bother using the crossover feature of this amp?? If I do use the crossover feature , do I use two short cables and run them from X-Over out (High & Low) to the Effects Loop Stereo Return ( L & R )??? Sorry for all the questions , but I am a SWR Newbie and I would like to get the most bang for my buck out of this awesome sounding Rig. I read the same thing that you did on the Harmony Cental website with people complaining about SWR's customer support and people also complaining about reliablity issues with the SM900 amp head. I saw a band recently and the bass player was using a SM900 and I loved how it sounded , so even with all the negative feedback on harmony central about customer support and reliability issues with the SM900 , I went ahead and traded my old rig in for a SM900 and two 8 OHM Gollaith IV 4x10 Cabinets. I hope the complaints came from rival companies or a few issolated incidents , and that my SM900 is a reliable amp head because I had to travel over 3 hours one way (over 6 hours all together) , to find a music store willing to take my old 6x10 and 8x10 cabinets in on trade ( I had no problem trading in my Genz Benz GBE1200 Head , but I wanted to trade in all or nothing ). The music stores closer to me (still over an hour away) , said that they wouldn't be able to move my big cabinets (Genz Benz 6x10 & SWR 8x10 Workingmans Tower). I was just tired of hauling around those big cabinets even though my new Gollaith IV cabinets weigh about just as much , but just not as awkward to carry. Needless to say if I do have reliablilty issues with my SM900 - I'm going to have to travel a long way to get it fixed. Any of you SM900 users have any issues with your heads?? Check owners manual on SWR site.
your two cabs equal 4 ohms. You might not hear any difference between two cabs stereo, one per side, and bridged.
Use good quality speakon cable and try one per side.
SWRs run hot meaning the body of the amp can get quite warm. Not a malfunction but a feature where the heat is wicked away from the interior components.
Forget the cross over feature full range sounds better and is for someone with a Bertha and a 2x10.
Go real simple with the eq. Try flat first.
No aural enhancer or at the most 11:00.
Boost the pre until the input light flashes then back off a hair.
Crank Master for the real volume you want.
Turn the tweeters to almost off on your cabs. This gives a balanced response across the frequency range of your cabs.
Reduce treble just a little on the amp.
All this is to get you to hear the sound of your bass.
It is possible to get yourself into madness adjusting all that eq then you can't hear yourself on a gig.
With minimum eq tweaking you will get the most headroom out of the amp. SWRs are capable of amplifying stuff you can't hear so your available power will go to low lows and high highs and your amp will seem under powered.
Last advice....enjoy your new setup!

Can anybody tell me me how I can get the wiring diagram for a Goliath II. I called fender and they didn't have it. I got this cab and 2 of the wires are not connected and I have no idea if the previous owner messed with it or not. If somebody knows let me know, it wold be appreciated. Thanks

Hermanmunster if you can tell me what ohms your Goliath II is I can tell you how to wire it.


I'm loving some of the New SWR stuff. Havent had a chance to check out the new NEO Cabs yet but plan on it soon.

Just added a new Son of Bertha 1x15 to my rig.

As far as the Customer Service, SWR is owned by Fender and I've not had any trouble out of Fender at all. There are a lot of folks out there these days who want instant gratification and that is not allways possible.

Also it pays to be informed on how to operate your equipment safely.:)

Her's the rig with the new Cab added. BTW guys if you don't know, the new Goliath IV 4x10 though conservatively rated at 800 watts, will pretty much take anything you can throw at it (within reason). I've been running mine with a QSC RMX 2450 bridged mono into the cab for months now and it Freakin Pumps Baby.

I'm with you on that one. Jenifer is one of the Prettiest Women to have Graced the Planet. She comes off to me as more of a real person. Not quite as Sweet as my Wife but right next to her. :smug:


Allright we need some more SWR Pics and I'm just the man to take care of it. Since I decided to run the 15 with the 4x10 in my rig, using the QSC RMX 2450 there is a considerable Power drop so I went ahead and installed my Crest Audio CA9 back in my Bass Rig. Before I was running the QSC Bridged Mono into the 4x10, which gave me Tons of Clean Headroom and Low End Wallop. My 4x10 is 4 ohms and my 15 is 8 ohms so I can not run either Amp Bridged and have to run Stereo.

Funny how it works out, full power on the QSC is 2450 watts and full power on the Crest is 2000 watts but the Crest puts out more in Stereo at 4 or 8 ohms. With the QSC I was getting 650 out of the 4 ohm side and 450 out of the 8 ohm side. With the Crest it puts out 900 on the 4 ohm side and 600 on the 8 ohm side. Which equals more Kathump. It is very easy to tell just by listening.



This is to me kind of an odd setup running 8 ohms on one side and 4 ohms on the other but when I think about it, it works best because the 15 could not hardly take 900 watts of Crest anyway.

All that being said I would absolutely love to try out the SWR Power 750 Poweramp.

I have a SWR Baby Blue (pre-fender)
and i've got my eyes on a SWR Silverado 2x12

does anyone have something to share about SWR Silverado 2x12. I would like some personal expirience info on that, thanx a bunch :)

Yes and no.:confused:

The store where I get all my SWR Gear from (Galaxy Music), was going to order me one but needed to wait til the Rep came by the store right after NAMM. I stopped in the day after he had been there only to find out that the MM Neo Cab was still in the design stage and would not be out til this Summer some time. All the rest of the new NEO Cabs are available just not the MM Signature Cab.

I wanted the Signature Cab over the other 4x10's they offer because it is Sealed and is supposed to have a more Pronounced Midrange Tone. I liked the Idea of having another 4x10 but one that sounded a good deal different.

I havent talked to them recently but they know to call me when it's time and they should be getting me one when they are ready. Right now I'm going to focus on either another 1x15 or a 2x10, havent decided yet. This will allow me to run both sides of my Rig at 4 ohms as well as break it down into small stuff, if need be.

I have been spending most of my spare time rehersing with my new Band, getting ready for some Summer Gigs. Havent had much time to obsess over my Gear.:D

so i have a question for you all.
back on january 31, my band had a gig. over christmas i acquired my SWR rig (bass 750, goliath jr III, and Eden 4x10)
i plugged my rig up and had it set up. when i turned it on i got that distorted fart noise like my battery in my bass died. so i replaced the battery. then when i turned the amp back on both of the fuses blew (the line/ac fuse and the speaker fuse). i replaced the speaker fuse with the 10amp fast blow fuse. i had to order the 10A slow blow fuse for the line fuse. when i replaced that fuse, it blew upon turning on the amp, leaving the speaker fuse in tact. i would just like to know what the possible problem is. i have already ruled out a faulty AC cable, because i tried the SWR AC plug on my other amp and it worked fine.

any help is wanted.
