SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

I did put magnets under the pickups on my Ursa 6 along with changing the strings to GHS flats. Big difference in tone and output. Volume now on par with most other passive basses I own and the tone is much more detailed and present. Quick and inexpensive upgrade.

the magnets I have are 2mmx4mm and the A string is really the only weak one. what do you suggest? My output ain't so bad. In a live setting somewhat loud I can tell that they're not great pickups. So I'm thinking magnets all across the entire bottom of the pickups and maybe a few extra under the A string.

Sounds like a plan. I used ceramics and love the results. Found mine at Lowe's, four to a package. Ran them the full length of the pickup.

Another update: neck straight and action dialled in incredibly low...pickup clearance still a concern, but there's no buzzing of frets or anything. Will play it for a few days and perhaps sneak the action up a hair for good measure. Still feels and sounds fantastic.

that's rad but too heavy for me. i want that neck though. i'm still going to get one just for the blocked neck and swap it on to mine. with my neck i'll then do a FL job w/ this wood. i'm pretty sure i can pull it off.

need to replace the vol pot & the tone pot with a 250k. & still need that blocked neck!
there are a few on evilbay right now around $20. if anyone wants my stock bridge you can has it pay for UPS. a little scratched but works perfectly.

the chrome bumper is Fender V; the bridge is on ebay--search 6 string bass bridge. It was like 20 or 30 $$. .5" like the stock bridge. this one feels nicer without the abrupt edges. subtle difference but it's noticeable.

And the Fender cover is wide enough? I know Squier fivers are wide as hell, but I wasn't aware Fenders were the same.

Also, on Fender's website it says it "does not include mounting hardware." Does this this seriously not come with mounting screws?!

I'll definitely be checking out the replacement bridge. I can't stand standard J bridges. Thanks for the tips!

seller on ebay is gjguitars or guitar jones. they have cool aftermarket stuff namely a big fat pole piece jazz pup similar to ebmm. I asked them to make a 6 string jazz pickup with the fat poles, to fit sx. let's see.

the fender V is wide enough. that's what's on mine. actually a 4-string will make it across too but it's a very tight fit. these are bendable so you can fit it to taste.

all you need is two screws they're like a $1 for 20 at the hardware store. drill first because most cheap screws will break without drilling and i think all screws are cheap MIC stuff these days.

word.

Yeah, I figured I might have to do that. It just seems like kind of a dick move on Fender's part to not include two screws that would cost them .0005 cents, whereas I have to spend half an hour of my life in the bowels of Home Depot (where, inevitably, I'll find something else I can't live without.)

Robear, I hope that the bass is playable, even though I am envious that you got to it before me. But in the remote chance that you aren't happy with it, I will take it off your hands. And I say "remote" because my experience with Rondo b-stocks (and I've bought quite a few) is that Kurt doesn't sell unusable instruments as b-stocks, the really bad ones become part of a box of bodies or necks.

Well here it is and it is not bad at all.
I hope he keeps a few more because I want to order another one.

B stock? Oh man! Just look at that wood grain! Booteek! It's a good thing you saw it first or I'd have been all over it! I'll have to keep an eye out for more. All it needs is a nice grey pearloid pickguard and the usual setup and it's good to go.

I've been thinking about switching my SX 6er with round wounds to an ash body to take advantage of the brightness. I just ordered three of those max cool top loader bridges for my three SX 6ers. I'm thinking about an Audere preamp for the round wound one as well.

I"ve obviously gone absolutely insane over these SX six stringers.

Excellent score on yours I'd say.
