SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

This my first bass with a low B so I have nothing to compare it to. Are they normally this floppy, or is the tension of these strings on the low side? I haven't done anything to mine yet, setup-wise.

Unfortunately I'm travelling and totally bassless.

Normal. Realistically you can play it w a lighter touch plugged in and it will be less of an issue, but playing unplugged, charged w / nbd excitement I dont blame you for flopping it. Also these are notorious for caca strings albeit these are better than prior gen strings made from leftover scrap metal. Or you can just get labellas.

I have flats on my other basses - chromes on a 69 Tele and La Bellas on a 71 P fretless - so its nice to have a bass with fresh rounds, even if they're not the best.

Guess I have to learn not to spank that fat B.

Got mine today!!! Totally awesome!!! Best deal I've EVER made on an instrument, and I have made a few in 30 years of trading!!! Wasn't expecting metallic paint either, so that was another pleasant surprise. Best freakin' bass deal ever. Thanks to all for the helpful reviews!!!

My red Ursa 6 was delivered yesterday and I have to say that it was a crazy good deal for $99. My other SX Ursa 6 is a fretless and I have two other high end six stringers so I only picked this up as a potential project bass because of the sale.

I was once again impressed by the fit, finish and quality of this bass for the price. I can't believe that I only paid $99 plus shipping for this.

I did not expect to like the red but it is actually a metalic red that looks very nice. My fret ends were a bit sharp so I needed to do some filing on the ends but the action and playability of this bass out of the box was not bad at all.

The electronics are still too quite for my taste but I have the set of magnets that I could not use with the fretless so I plan to stick them in and give it a shot. I also have a ming preamp on order but, I am actually kicking myself for selling my Sadowsky Outboard preamp a few months back.

Don't know if I am going to do it but I have some six string soapbar pickups fom an Ibanez BTB 6 that I may put into one of these bases - gives me an opportunity to use my router.

All in all great deal. Even at $129 or $169. Crazy deal at $99

When I get some time I will post a pic.

Was playin with my new toy...about 5 min in, neck pup die and I started getting some buzz. Don't really wanna send it back as its really nice fit and finish wise. I also don't want to take it apart and mess up the warranty/return policy. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could be a loose wire. A J bass pup set functions as a humbucking set and a lone pup will buzz. The problem may be a soldering iron away from solved.
Take the metal plate with the controls on it off and see if a wire is loose.

Where are the trees from? Big improvement over the big chrome mushrooms.

No question these are a "must do" mod for SX 6ers. As Chuck Noriss notes they come from stew mac and eliminate all the string binding and scraping that the mushrooms do. And best of all is they fit right in the old mushroom screw holes so there are no extraneous screw holes in the headstock to deal with. All my SX 6er have them. Love 'em.

Let me say, however that I bought a bunch and ONE of them had the little wheels stuck on the shaft and wouldn't turn. But you know, stuff happens, I had ordered extra so it was no problem.

While I agree that the mushrooms have to go, I still prefer my hipshots (on the right headstock below), mostly cause I like how they look:

Different strokes for different folks.

Yep, a lot of us do, some more than others (ignore the Squier Affinity at top right):

My favorite SX Tele is my SSS one, but they all are good values. Pick one you like (from the site, mine aren't for sale) and go for it!
