Tabasco or Frank's Red Hot?

have you tried one called 'sambal'? my father-in-law brings bottles of it from Indonesia, it has a slight sweet twist compared to the sriracha

Huy Fong (The company that makes Sriracha) also makes Sambal. I ate half a jar of it on a burrito last night. Today was a pretty good day all things considered......

Frank's Red Hot vs. Tabasco is a false dichotomy. They are different kinds of hot sauces, with different functions. And sometimes they can be used together. For instance, authentic Buffalo wings calls for a sauce made of 2 parts Frank's to 1 part butter. However, if you want hotter Buffalo wings, you can add some Tabasco to the sauce.

I've got a lot of different hot sauces; can't remember the names of most of them off-hand, but most were purchased in Louisiana (if that matters; there are hundreds available). Personally, I find Tabasco to be too "vinegarry" to my taste. It took me a long time to figure out exactly what it is that I didn't like about it, but I'm sure that's it.

Mmmm Sambal. Due to the nature of colonization, the Dutch have a large proportion of indonesian food in their cuisine. My mother fed me countless dishes with sambal as a kid; now my parents make the stuff. I have two jars of handmade sitting in the fridge right now :)

that's awesome! I use it in a lot of fusion cooking at home, i imagine the homemade variety is great

Thats my beef with Tabasco as well, ever since I was a wee little matticus.

well, as a wee tool4602 (the other zeroes hadnt descended yet) i was punished with a drop of tobasco a few times, but i love the stuff now. i must have been desensitized.

EDIT: also: dorm food. good god. dorm food. i swear thats why i put tobasco on everything now, because i dont recall doing that before.

They're both good although I prefer Tabasco slightly. It's more versatile IMO.

You should check out Belize style hot sauces too. They're my absolute favorites. Try to find Vizcaya or Sontava. They're both fantastic.
