Talkbass but for guitarists?

Agreed. I feel I've grown to sort of know a lot of posters here and like the familiarity of it all. Especially the constant mischief the GOF's are up to. I think there are a lot of guitarists who double as bass players (but not double bass) and kind of lurk around and have some mysterious handshake that gets you into the bowels of a subterranean thread where guitarists thrive. It's only a theory but sounds like a good movie line...

As always @Stumbo is very helpful sharing knowledge on how guitarists can navigate around TB and agreed with a lot of posters that this really is one of the most civilized (and often literary) forums I've been on among the many other musician related forums I've visited. Now it's time for warm milk and cookies before bed...

Harmony Central is alive and well! Bit of a ghost town, sadly, but there are still a few regular posters. Each sub-forum seems to have it's own regulars and it's own 'culture' for lack of a better word. Just stay out of the Political Forum and you should be OK. We're happy for any new users that aren't spam posts.

When I joined HC about 9 years ago, the tabs were already gone, but there was a NEW copyright controversy. People in the effects forum were posting information from 'freestompboxes DOT org' about the fact that certain boutique pedals are either straight up copies of 'commercial' pedals or slightly modified versions there of. Schematics were posted for comparison, and apparently some of the boutique pedal builders, (those MFers), had their lawyers write scary threatening letters. So for a while, they had to aggressively moderate the forums, and you could not even mentions "freestompboxes DOT org" in a forum post!

What killed HC is that the forum software went through several software upgrades to improve capacity and stability of the forums, but unfortunately, the software upgrades did not always go smoothly, and the forum would be offline for days at a time. I think there was a period where they were down for over two weeks. When it came back, most of the users were gone and never returned.

Harmony Central was purchased by Gibson a few years ago, and surprisingly they have not interfered in the day to day operation of the forum, and moderation is fairly relaxed, but they don't allow personal attacks or insults. I know one one of the other guitar forums, (Gear Page?) you CAN NOT discuss those cheap Chinese made 'knock off' guitars on the forum.

No, there is not. Guitarists have a bunch of forums to choose from, and they are kind of segmented. Talkbass is awesome, and I think it's one of, if not the best, musician's forums online. We are fortunate to have it.

Also, people ask about guitar stuff on Talkbass. They ask about almost everything, and there are a lot of nice people here to give answers and discuss. I've played guitar way longer than I've played bass and I will try my best to answer any questions you have, in the forums or via private message.

I have to disagree with you here at least as far as Strat Talk and Gretsch Talk are concerned. These 2 forums that I frequent are not as, how can I say it, "passionate" as Talk Bass participants, and the participants are more civilized and friendlier, IMO. As a matter of fact, far fewer post rage on and on about topics. The topics on ST and GT tend to not get sidetracked. Once a point is made on a topic the thread generally ends. TB members are by far rowdier, uncivilized and sometimes downright uncouth and behave as if they are cowboys in the Wild West!

That being said, I like TB because of the passion, opinions, and personalities. :)

I recently joined tdpri.com, and not because I have a tele. I had some questions about my old SF fender champ, and some googling led me to posts there. I found the folks very helpful. After that I took a good look around the forum, and realized there is a wealth of good info there, much like TB. I'm sure d-baggery happens there just like it does everywhere on the interwebz. But I haven't come across any yet. And yes, people speak glowingly of teles there. But the forum is really about guitar in general. Or at least that's what it's become. Lots of great DIY pedal and amp stuff there. drool

Years ago I wasted way too much of my time and brain cells on the old HC forums. It was just a horrible place. I finally rage quit and never went back, surprising even myself. Occasionally I come across threads on specific topics via google. But the impression I have is that HC is long beyond its former glory. And good riddance.

And TB is still Candyland, compared to the old Harmony Central forums.

Actually, I think it's all a generational thing. Internet forums like this started over 20 years ago. Folks like us that still use them are an older, "wiser" crowd. Youngsters don't use BBs. They use social media apps, Reddit, and wastelands like 4chan. I just think there is just less of the anti-social stuff I remember seeing years ago on HC, because we're all older now. If you want to see how bad the internet can be, go to 4chan or some Reddit subs. Scary, scary places, with a much younger crowd.

About being whacked by Lemmy? It was 1976 or 77, at the (then) Music Machine in Camden Town (London, UK) and Motorhead were playing. Lemmy was out with the punters, playing pool. I happened to walk behind him as he drew the cue back for a shot. I was hit.

It's a story I rarely tell as it's...not very interesting.

I met Steve Cropper. I was doing a photography gig at the church he attends here in Nashville. He and his family were the last to be photographed. My partner got the luck of the draw and was the one to photograph them but I waited around for him to show up. We talked a while. I have his autograph around here somewhere. He's super nice. Very humble man.
