I met Steve Cropper. I was doing a photography gig at the church he attends here in Nashville. He and his family were the last to be photographed. My partner got the luck of the draw and was the one to photograph them but I waited around for him to show up. We talked a while. I have his autograph around here somewhere. He's super nice. Very humble man.

I'll agree about the Gretsch Talk forum. I've belonged to it for quite a while, but.. since I don't own a Gretsch guitar, there isn't a whole lot for me to participate in. Their version of OT, and Other Guitars is about it. But, yeah, they're nice folks. I used to belong to "The Gretsch Pages" forum, too. They at least had a site for basses ("The Bass-ment"), but it was pretty lonely there, and posts were few and very far between. And there were several people on the forum who had a bad case of "Big Fish In A Small Pond" syndrome. Lord help you if you crossed them... which I did once or twice. I finally gave that place up, oh, 4/5 years ago, now. And, of course there's always the RickResource Forum. Yeah, you pretty much have to toe the party line there, but if you just ask questions nicely, and say "thank you" afterwards, you'll survive... And, yes, I like it here, too...:rolleyes:

I'm eventually going to stop cruising the guitar forums. There are entirely too many photos posted of guitars with vibrato bridges, but with no vibrato arm :wideyed:
There's a local guy who plays a Charvel with a double-locking vibrato guitar (Floyd Rose style) & he never installs the vibrato arm. It bugs me so bad that I stopped going to see them, but they had to drop their format anway.
Apparently grunge covers isn't a hot market around here.

I have to admit, I think TB is a great place because of the people here.

Gretsch 1.png Gretsch 2.png Just hang out on the Gretsch forums. Lots of tremolo arms there, and no one ever takes them off...:whistle:

One is a G5422T Electromatic Double Cut, and the other one is a G6128T-59 Vintage select '59 Duo-Jet. Which I would love to have - if they made a lefty...:(

With the right (read; heavy) strings, and the correct-with-a-Bigsby roller bridge, they are no less stable than any other vibrato. Granted, they were never made for dive-bombing shredders, but that's range of motion, not stability. They are much less of a pain to set up, though...;)

And finally; yes, you can take the arm off. But, yes, the nut is underneath, so you have to take the whole thing off the guitar to do it...:whistle:
