I play some guitar (dabble atleast) as well, and it seems im always researching amps, pedals, or instruments. I trust the folks at tdpri more than any other forum. Ive read a ton of the various forums over the past few years. many of the folks at tdpri seem to be actual gigging musicians. Im just a lurker there tho, i dont belong to any guitar forum.

There used to be a TalkGuitar spinoff of TB. It think it might have closed. Back in the old days you could have gone to Harmony Central, but that died. I think the most active guitar forums these days are the brand- or style-specific ones, like TDPRI for telecaster players. They have some subforums for other guitar types but treat it as "off topic."

I remember Harmony Central. It was a pretty cool sight. IIRC they were pretty much forced to shut down by the big dawgs. I believe they claimed copyright infringement due to it's extremely large data base for guitar & bass tabs.

Seems to be up today, though I hadn't been there in years before someone mentioned it here. Maybe it relaunched?

They're all focused on 3 basic designs:
Stratocaster
Telecaster
Lester Polsfuss

not much room for a person who plays other brands, LOL!
but of course the technique sub-forums are universal

I enthusiastically recommend TDPRI, I was a regular there for many years and it's a great bunch of pickers. Of course there are always a few exceptions, but the mods there keep a pretty close eye on the place and there's a lot of goodwill.

The only guitar forum I frequent these days is www.thefenderforum.com. It's gotten quiet there lately but if you have a question, there's still some knowledgeable folks there that can help you. The sister forum LesPaulForum.com is quite a bit busier.

The Acoustic Guitar Forum (AGF) for steel and classical guitar info
Delcamp Forum (classicalguitardelcamp.com) for tons of classical guitar stuff
