TalkBass Trade Gone Bad

A crap for crap deal? Yeah, Ok. Here is the bass I traded for the Road Worn, these are the same pictures I sent to the trader. This a '90/'91 MIJ Fender '51 Precision RI. The installed PU is a Rio Grande Muy Grande; the original was also included in the trade. The trade included a Fender Deluxe gig bag in excellent condition. I changed the strap buttons back to stock. Hell, I even included a sweet maple tug bar that wasn't part of the original deal. The defects with this bass are clearly detailed. There were no issues with this bass. It is a nice, clean, 25 year-old SCPB.

i like your post. i understand your post. but, i think a guy with his previous good standing deserves a chance to get it right and be forgiven. :)

Admittedly 70 deals is a high number, however I've seen several instances of shady dealers having perfect feedback only because so many are reticent to raise a fuss. Only after someone righteous steps up do others come out of the woodwork, "Well I left positive feedback, but..." or "... so I just didn't leave feedback."

Scams go down on this site, even in the name of charity, by persons who were transparent shysters in my view yet they had totally stellar records and the goodwill of many... until they didn't. Caveat emptor indeed.

Best of luck to the OP. I like the look of the bass as-is, but a deal's a deal and this deal seems to be a raw one whether you like the bass or not.

i like your post. i understand your post. but, i think a guy with his previous good standing deserves a chance to get it right and be forgiven. we don't even know the condition of the bass the OP sent out. maybe it was a crap for crap deal and one persons crap out crapped the others,... (whew! that was a mouth full)
but,.. overall you could miss the deal of a lifetime. i'm sure the next thing he sells will sit long enough for me to swoop up for pennies on a dollar! :)

I dunno guy.....failing to disclose chunks of wood gouged out from a bass and then saying its in excellent shape is pretty shady. I don't care if the bass is road worn it not....if it's missing chunks of wood, you should prob disclose that. I know the road worn thing is still a little new to some people. So maybe you can claim he was ignorant to the whole RW thing. However, there aren't too many relics out there where removal of wood is part of the process. If in doubt, be honest. What makes the entire deal seem even more shady, (like the trade party knew what he did was deceptive) was his response (or lack of response) when the OP called him out. You can spend your money however you choose. Free world right? But I'll be a bit more cautious on whom I deal with. Take a look at the old dr bass threads or SGD threads if you need a reminder of how it works when people do biz with a questionable character when they were warned not too.

i hear all of the rebuttals and i agree, but someone had to re-energize this thread and keep it poppin'.
good post above about people NOT stepping up and outting bad deals! i just wish there were more stipulations and support from management, but i guess their hands are somewhat tied.

@Arizona Jones,... SWEEEET!!!
sorry, bro! i was just sayin' & now i know! :)

The OP said he had messaged him today, but he was last seen online yesterday, so maybe he hasn't seen the message yet. He has actually only posted 4 times so far this year.

I am not defending, just saying that maybe he hasn't seen the message yet (or is hiding).

Exactly, relic or not, no bass comes standard with the kind of damage shown in those pics. The only way it's excusable on the other trader's part would be if he himself received the bass in another trade and honestly didn't know that kind of damage was not standard on a relic. If that is the case, he should understand his mistake and have no problem trading back.

BINGO!!!

OP here.

Huh, looks like he logged in around 5PM, deleted his profile pic, and then went on down the road. :D

Stay classy, my friend.

Here is the original for trade thread - http://www.talkbass.com/threads/roadworn-3ts-jazz-for-51-reissue-p.1123147/

Here is a thread where he sold a Road Worn Precision bass with the relicing "touched up", he didn't bother to disclose it here either -
http://www.talkbass.com/threads/fs-only-road-worn-fender-precision-w-hsc.914528/

I'll post some negative feedback tomorrow and put this deal to bed.

If his other posts are any indication, it sounds like your 51 will be making appearances with his church band. Maybe he should pay more attention between songs...

So he is not interested in giving his side of the story, and definately not going to make this right.

I feel sorry for you OP, especially after seeing the bass you traded.

However, as you say, life continues. Let's just hope people take note of this when dealing with him (maybe you could link this thread in your feedback?)
