TalkBass Trade Gone Bad

Stock Fender pic in the ad - another huge flag for me.

But the other trade party has a long member history on TB in addition to having a 100% 70 transaction history. I'd like to think that means something around here. I've sold things with stock photos or even with out photos. However, I'm certain the reason I could do so was because of my feedback and history on this site. I think a potential buyer would feel comfort in knowing that a senior member of this site isn't out to screw another TB over. And furthermore, I think that same buyer would assume that if something would go amuck that said senior member would at least attempt to make things right. That's what separates this site from places like reverb, ebay, harmony central, etc. a persons reputation actually means something here. Sad to see another member abusing their seniority.

I wouldn't argue with a thing you said. It should mean something, I guess I'm just overly cautious.

You make a valid point, but given the op's situation, this is the exception to the rule so to speak.

I have no opinion one way or the other about artificially reliced basses (though I wouldn't want one), and I don't really know that much about them, but don't the "official" professionally distressed ones only have wear on the finish? As opposed to damage done to the wood, I mean.

My RW didn't have any wood damage. It had some oddball (to me) holes in the finish that didn't look like wear I would have made, but no chunks or chips out of the wood. Oddly enough, the "wear" also had a finish over it, so where the wood was showing through on the top bout of the body, there was actually a clear satin finish. That's worn off of mine, and there are now other wear holes in the finish where my fingers go, but even with the amount of play wear and banging around mine has had, the wood isn't gouged. I suppose some have damage to the wood, but Fender Road Worns don't, and certainly not from the factory.

Frankly, no matter what happens next with this ugly deal, it would be a service to the TB community to name the guy who stiffed you. The rest of what I'd like to say is not in keeping with the spirit of TB. Hope it works out.

keep us posted! if he laments and does the right thing i'll take him off of my "No-Buy" list.
thank you,

He'll stay on my off limits list. I mean seriously, if a guy needs a public shaming to do the right thing....then he's someone I'd rather avoid doing biz with all together. No matter if he ends up doing right or not

i like your post. i understand your post. but, i think a guy with his previous good standing deserves a chance to get it right and be forgiven. we don't even know the condition of the bass the OP sent out. maybe it was a crap for crap deal and one persons crap out crapped the others,... (whew! that was a mouth full)
but,.. overall you could miss the deal of a lifetime. i'm sure the next thing he sells will sit long enough for me to swoop up for pennies on a dollar! :)
