I wouldn't argue with that. It's sad that someone is so hard up for money that they have to screw someone else over a couple hundred dollars.

No one has less interest in relics basses than I, but even I can see the difference between a relic and a hack job. +100 to talking to mods, and getting the trade undone. Especially since he sent stock photos of the bass (which should have been a red flag IMO), it appears he was trying to hide the truth.

OP, if the other party refuses to return your bass for his please do the whole community a favour and out the member. I would demand it is returned at their cost as well, but that is just me.

I'm one of those guys who would go to the store, look at a road worn bass and say to the salesman "So this is...what? A third the price of a new one?"

Here is my .02.........Nevermind the fact that he attempted to add additional "relic". He stated that the bass was less than a year old., and in fact it is 4 years old. In my book there is a HUGE difference between a misrepresentation and an outright lie.

I don't know any of the parties involved in this deal, but when basses get resold a number of times, it can be hard to track who did what. For example, I have seen basses sold on here where a Fender decal has been put on a non-Fender neck, presumably not for deception, but to get a certain "look" for the bass. Even if the person who put the decal on is fully honest and upfront about this, after the bass has been resold a few times, this fact may get lost, which is a little worrisome. I had someone misrepresent a bass to me on that "evil" place, so I generally feel better about doing business with folks on TB despite unfortunate stories such as this one. Best of luck getting it resolved.
I wouldn't dwell on the fact that the bass was made in 2011, it could be in fact that the person did get the bass as a new old stock last year. I recently bought a brand new Squier Deluxe V from a store that was made in 2010.
But back to the condition of the bass, man what a disaster. I have never seen a Roadworn with that many gouges. What a douche, if he/her indeed tried to pass it on as new condition. I love Talkbass, but all it takes is just that 0.1% to ruin your day.

I agree that it was bad business to trade that bass as like new (relic). On the other hand, props to the OP for not going into flame mode. I appreciate that this gives the offender the opportunity to realize the error of their ways, and make it right.

That really sucks. IMHO, depending on what you traded for that and it's value, if your trading partner refuses to undo the deal, you may want to look at getting an attorney to write up a letter or see what kind of relief that you can get through small claims court. Hope it works out for you.

My RW Precision has had black Sharpie put over the "relic" spots on the body, mostly because I thought they were silly looking. Now that Sharpie ink is wearing off, so it's a reliced, dereliced, relic. Or something. The finish is wearing off below the pickup because that's where I use a pick. It has ashtrays and those have marked the finish where the edges are a little sharp. The gold anodizing is beginning to wear off in spots, and the finish has worn clear off the back of the neck. It also has more bangs on it than that it had when it was new, because it has been used hard for almost five years now. It even has a genuine cigarette burn on the headstock. All that use, abuse, and neglect, and it still looks far different from that Jazz. Go figure.

OP here, just wanted to add a few things.
The actual model year of the bass was never an issue for me, as, IMO, Road Worn basses have changed very little over the years. I did a little detective work and it appears that the bass was more than likely purchased by the trader as NOS (New Old Stock).
I wanted to quickly go over how this deal went down and where the transaction currently stands -
We discussed the trade using TB messages.
We traded basses.
The trader followed up first, sending me a TB message stating - "I received your bass yestetday eve. It is nice. Did you receive my bass on your end?"
I replied that I was glad he liked my bass, and then explained my dissatisfaction with the condition of his bass (actual text in post #7).
He replied that Road Worn instruments come that way from the factory (actual text in post #7). Then he adds this - "Btw, I did not find the extra pickup with your bass."
Note: My bass came with a upgraded pickup installed and I offered to included the stock pickup. I had to go to the store to buy extra supplies to pack it with. It sure isn't sitting at my house. I'm 100% sure I packed it.
I replied - "If you received the bass, then you received the extra pickup. It is in a padded mailing envelope in one of the gig bag pockets."
That is the last communication I've had with the trader.
