Talkbass weight loss challenge?

If you're doing aerobic and anaerobic exercise daily, and aren't looking to do enter a strong man competition; beer won't hurt the regimen. But, if you're eating like crap and getting drunk every night while never working out, the pounds will pack on quicker than you can eat them.... I should know :scowl:

Now its back to square one for me, runnin, liftin and low carb'in.

In week 38 of my lb/wk diet, I'm at -33 lbs. Just 2 more lbs and I will be at the halfway point to my ideal weight. My BMI will also dip to 29.9 at that point, so I will be merely fat, rather than obese.

I must admit I am not that gung-ho about my diet right now. It has been almost 9 months. I am concentrating more on healthy eating and getting some exercise. I keep an eye on calorie intake, but I am not really going hungry. It's more of a way of life than a diet now. The weight is coming off more slowly than I would like, but it is coming off and I don't feel deprived of food. I have a long way to go, so I think not feeling deprived is important, as are good eating habits.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to take much beer to grind things to a halt. I really like beer, but I really hate being overweight, so there is a bit of conflict. I just read somewhere that some element in beer facilitates interabdominal fat. I should have noted the source.

Most of the weight seems to have come off my gut. I always parked my jeans just south of my gut, so I am only now going down a waist size. That took over 30 lbs. The next waist size down should only be another 15-18 lbs, and then another one 15 lbs after that. I still have clothes that fit when I was thinner. Being non-fashion-conscious and a cheapskate, I will just slip back into them. I'll check back in in a couple of months.

I just wanted to post this up here for some reason.

I have a long history of gaining and loosing weight.

First time I ever lost weight. I lost probably 50 lbs it was when I met my first love. I literally forgot to eat.

Then I remembered to eat agian and climbed my way up to 230lbs at 5' 10 and 16

I got strict with my diet and stoped playing bass all day and got a job. I lost 65 LBS in about 2 months. [I know its very fast some people say its un healthy, but Im no where NEAR feeling faint I just change what I eat. It was great to go to school one year huge and come back over the summer having lost 60lbs. EVERYONE NOTICED. DIDN'T YOU USED TO BE BIG? LOL

Im posting this because after dropping down to 160 lbs I slowly climbed back up to 185 and here I have been for years. Im now 21 and have been trying recently very hard to loose weight but simply couldn't. I must say the HFCS thread was a huge inspiration [Ill get to that later] I have been working out since january and been unemployed for a while. I was working out vigorously for 5-6 nights a week and saw a big gain in muscle [looks] but weight stayed the exact same [must have lost some fat]

Anyways I finally get a job agian and that is helping but im back in the groove I was back when I was 17.

1. WORK of course this helps because your burning calories. But I worked much harder than I do now and couldn't shed weight.

2. EAT BETTER. I stopped counting calories all together and started eatting [better food] I.E. SALADS, smoothies, whole foods.

3. Eat my last meal earlier in the day 5:00 instead of 8:00

4. AVOID EXCESS SUGAR.

5. Allow one day a week to eat something you normally wouldn't.

By simply eating salads for lunch, eating dinner earlier [I think these two have the biggest impact. Even though Im eating a 750 calorie salad its like my body burns more calories processing it] and avoiding sugar and fried foods basicly just deciding what foods seemed healthier Im loosing 1lb a day and Im eating about 1600 calories a day and am not working out but 1-2 nights a week.

I decided I cannot live without some sugar. I still have my 8oz redbulls and occasional gatorade, Id rather consume sugar and be fat than consume an artifical sweetener. But I have cut WAYYY back.

And I eat something "bad" once a week because I can, but I also feel the high calories basicly keeps my calorie burning efficient.

Its crazy because I have been trying to loose weight my ENTIRE LIFE. and when I was 17 I made up my own diet. Its not the calories its the substance and it worked. However It seems I forgot how to do it after and have been trying every diet I could think of. Low Carbs, Low Calories, No Calories in the morning no calories at night and Im just happy to be back on track.

The easiest thing you can do is to stop drinking soda, even if you just drink one can/bottle a day. When I cut soda out of my diet I seriously lost almost 10 pounds in 6 weeks.

Also, for those of you using a weight lifting program to lose weight, don't get discouraged if your weight doesn't change or actually goes up; muscle is more dense and weighs more than fat, so even if it doesn't look like you're making any changes you really are.

And for those of you buying veggies, go to farmer's markets if possible. It's cheaper, tastes better, is better quality, and you're supporting local business. When I started shopping at them I wound up saving about $40 a month on produce.

Wow I didn't know farmer's markets were cheaper! That's the only thing that kept me away; I kinda assumed they were more expensive. Thanks for that.

As fr me: I've been a bad boy :bawl: Just kind of forgot about calories, and went almost a week straight without eating veggies with my dinner for various reasons. Weighed in at 196lbs, up from 185 :(

I got a 7 day pass at the gym, been going every day since Sunday. Treadmill for 30 minutes plus some weigt lifting and basketball. Also watching what I eat,. Hopefully I keep it up this time. If I can hack it, I'll get a gym membership too; they got a pool :)

Hey folks,

Someone mentioned crossfit - this is an excellent program. HOWEVER - in order to do all of the exercises well, a significant increase in size / strength might be required. Make sure to read the rules on scaling a workout. It is better to err on the side of using too light a weight vs. thinking you can handle it (as a beginner). The high-rep, high-weight exercises are great, though - IF YOU CAN DO THEM. If you can't, learn the proper technique and gain strength.

With any program, recovery is key. Muscles grow while resting. Adequate sleep & a healthy diet will do much more than anything else.

I'm currently at 233 - the number isn't that great, but my lifts keep going up & I still fit my 34" pants, so that is a good thing. At the same time, all of my 42L suits & sportcoats no longer fit - "Fat man in a little coat!" Why did I get rid of my 48L coats when I went from 276 to 200 a couple of years ago? gah!

I need help too. i binge drink, smoke and eat. i need to make a change. I started out before marriage and a good looking 225 and 6 foot. Now I am almost 285. I feel so terrible and bad. If I can get some feedback, I will come back. I don't want to be the "fat bass player" anymore.
