Talkbass weight loss challenge?

6'4" 225 - 6 weeks ago I was 240.

I did it with a diet consisting solely of coffee and cigarettes, every now and then some chicken. Seems to be working for me.

Seriously though, I did three things
1 - Smaller portion sizes
I still eat what I want, when I want, just less. Instead of a bowl of chips watching TV at night, I have a half a bowl. Instead of clearing my plate at a resteraunt, I'm sure to leave a little something on the plate.
2 - Soda = Bad
I still have the occasional soda, but nowhere near what I used to have. I have maybe 3 a week now.
3 - Got a dog
I know this isn't an option for everyone, but that darling little mutt has not only gotten me to take at least three walks a day [EDIT: not lesiurley strolls around the block, I'm trying to keep up with him. Not a run, but definitley a very brisk walk] that I normally wouldn't have taken. He gets me out on the weekends and I'm generally spending more time outside then usual which is always a good thing.

I don't know how people can say things like "I gained/Lost 2 lbs this weekend" etc... I fluctuate 5-7lbs per day. I clocked in at 225 this morning, I will be between 220 & 230 when I clock in tonight or tomorrow morning, I can just about gaurantee it.

That's why the mirror matters a lot more than the scale. When
I was wrestling a few years ago, it was nothing to lose 7 lbs. in a single practice. Most of that was water-weight and returned as soon as you ate and drank something. Sure, I lost 2-3-4 actual lbs a week, but the mirror showed a way different body then the 30 pound less man I was at the end of the season.

i'm 5 feet 10 inches high and have 194punds
it's not too much but, last autumn i had around 178pounds, and had really really good figure and felt great, so i'm trying to get back to 178 pounds.

i've started running for an hour each day, doing pushups, situps, got back to training kung fu again... and checked my diet. (that's the worst part, the urge to eat even when i'm not hungry is kiling me, it's like a disease to me, i just loooove food, and cooking, but as craig630 said most of it is in smaller portions and no soda)

Week 31 of diet, I've lost 30 pounds.

I had a long plateau at -23 lbs. I dusted off the old Cannondale and am riding 15-20 miles per day, usually about 5 days per week. As my pace and mileage pick up, I'm hoping the pounds really start to shed. And as the pounds shed, I'll be able to ride harder and longer. I never had a weight problem when I used to bike a lot.

My birthday is in October, so I am going to make a 10 week push to see where I can be then. If I take the weight off and keep it off, I am thinking of rewarding myself with a nice racing bike next spring.

A little late to the challenge but I just started last Monday on the first stage of the South Beach diet. For anyone unfamiliar with that, it's basically two straight weeks of eating nothing that tastes good. After that I'm planning on just eating healthy with no real plan, and riding the bike 10-15 miles a day. So far I've dropped from 205 to 198 in 8 days. I always weigh myself every morning, even when I wasn't on a diet and I was consistently 204-206 every morning. So I've at least dropped a solid 5 pounds. And even more impressive, I'm able to touch my toes again. This is literally something I could not do 9 days ago. I've always been flexible so it really depressed me when I couldn't do that. Anyways, nice to see other people exercising some willpower!

In the past 3 weeks-ish I've dropped 9 lbs from 270 to 261.

Not exactly great progress, considering I lost 6-7lbs of it in the first week.

I've got a hefty deadline coming up, so after the end of this month I'm going to hit it properly.

Aiming to get down to about 220-230. (6ft4, always been broad built, number of years with the weights too).

Here's my goal:

Whatever I lose between now and New Year's Day, I'll work to lose an equal amount between 01/01 and April 15th.

Starting a chart, counting calories, and limiting to 3 sodas/wk.

The win is better health, and fitting in those (tight at the moment) clothes that are hanging in the music closet.

I just do better on weeks when I don't drink at all than on weeks when I have a beer or two. But I guess that's to be expected.

I hear you, but should a couple beers a week (200-300 calories) really matter if you watch everything else?

I am ok with sacrifice to point. Certain things just make life worth living (music, hot sauce, beer, pets). I wouldn't trade those for the best physique in the world.

That was my thinking...unfortunately, I didn't think about (or chose to ignore) the fact that alcohol becomes sugar in the body. So it's like eating a bunch of candy, only more enjoyable :)
That's why, by sticking to my calorie count but still drinking, I lost some weight, but still felt generally unhealthy and had my beer gut going on. Cutting out the alky, I lost weight, felt better, and had less of a gut :)
