Well the coppers and whites sound more like rounds to be more precise. The GHS blacks were so dark they were deader sounding than most flats
I like the Gold White tapes and thought they had a nice round wound tone too. I have a set of D'addario black tapes on a fretless that are awesome. I was thinking about trying a set of the regular white tapes and based on your comments will do so sooner than later.
D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds on my Ric 4003W.
I have a Squier P body with a Mighty Mite fretless neck. Fender tapes on it. The E and the A sound good, but any note fingered on the other two strings are totally dead. No punch or sustain at all. I've had good luck with tapes in the past, but maybe they are not a good fit on this particular bass?
I am having a hard time finding any heavy gauge tapes. My band plays half a step down and I play heavy gauge rounds right now and in afraid with the already lower tension of tapes that after the half step tune down they will just be flopping around like rubber bands. Thanks for any help in advance.
I'm having trouble finding tapewounds for a six string bass. I haven't played any before and not too picky as to which ones I try but I've watched a few videos that were showcasing D'Addario ETB92 and I kinda want to try those but am unable to find them in the six string variety, help.

I tried another pair of golds today and I changed my mind now. I do like them a lot. They are a little brighter and a little clearer than the coppers. They sound very clean and so sound closer to round wound. Good to know I have two strings now that I really like. I got a pair of the golds with the goofy purple wrap around and my eyes have a harder time seeing the fretboard cause of the purple pattern (like how a lion cannot make out a bunch of zebras). So I will order a regular pair of the golds very soon (Bass Strings Online only had the golds with the purple wrap).
Looking for recommendations- I've had D'Addario ETB92M Medium-Scale Tapes on my Ibanez acoustic bass for a couple of years now and I'm really enjoying the feel and the sound. However, I recently switched my electric to D-standard tuning (using Ernie Ball Cobalt flats 50-105) and I'd like to switch the acoustic to D-standard, as well.
So now I'm facing a conundrum. I fear the D'Addario Tapes would be far too floppy tuned in D-standard. I'm looking for something with just a little bit more tension to compensate for the down-tuning, but acoustic bass guitars are sensitive to tension.
Right now I'm thinking Rotosound TruBass because they have more mass (60-115), but of course that hardly means more tension as the tension of tapewounds is determined more by the size of the string under the tape.
Edited to add- tension is so important because I'd like to avoid the string buzz that seems to be inherent with Tapes on an acoustic.
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

did you try tuning down to D to see if they are floppy?
Hello I just bought a used Rob Allen with Labella white tape wounds. I love them. They feel great, sound great and have great sustain.
However, I'm not sure which white tape wounds they are. They have a goldish color under the tape and orangish silk. Does anyone know how to tell the originals from the coppers from the golds? I like them so much that I want to put the same strings on another fretless of mine.

i love tape wounds strings. i have la bella black tape wounds on my fretless dean eab, my fretless gretsche short scale electromatic, both B E A D tuning and white tape wound on my stirling ray 34 fretless...i'm in the club!
I am also a tape wound convert! Using Rotosound R88LD tru bass on my 5 String fretless MIM Jazz. I love love love them! I'll join the club!
as I recall those Rotos are a fairly thick gauge...did you have to file the nut to get them to fit? (I also have a MIM jazz)
I wasn't a fan when I first tried them on my Sadowsky, but they are great on my Fender Dimension. Medium gauge Fender tape wound. These strings have changed my attack, my plucking is more relaxed compared to playing on flats. I generally play with a slightly higher action than most people and these strings accommodate my preference just right.
Yeah, the B is a .135! Full disclosure: I just got this 3 weeks ago and these are the strings it came with. I inquired from the seller what strings were on it, and the rest is history. I seriously love them!
