Taste? Nope, none of that here

anything else you want to know about this or the black metal scene send me a PM and Ill take time to talk about anything.

Yes, we all know he committed suicide.
Yes, we all know what his music was like.
You add nothing to the discussion.

Moving on....

I'm assuming this is Courtney Love's doing. If it is, I hate her even more now. She doesn't give a rip about music, and probably doesn't even know what integrity is. She sold off 25% of the Nirvana's catalog a little while back. Krist and Dave own approximately 3% total. The company that bought it plans on using the music in a "tasteful" manner. Which includes the song 'Breed' being licensed for the video game Major League Baseball 2K7. And now this.

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana's music as well as image will probably be continued to utterly raped for money. It's so sad. As a longtime Nirvana fan, I hate it.

(Bad joke related to my last paragraph... You can't say he didn't ask for it!)

Comparing Van Gogh and Kurt Cobain. Now that's a bit of a stretch.

BTW, I didn't see your thread bitching about all the "Starry Night" framed posters you can buy at the mall.

That's right, you didn't. I don't have a problem with Nirvana albums still being sold either. Just like I don't have a problem with Nirvana cover bands. Selling copies of peoples work after they're dead is fine. Maybe if someone released a Van Gogh signature shoe, to fuel someone elses growing coke habit, I'd start a thread about that too.

the constant references to Courtney's drug use are, distasteful also. Certainly she had her junkie years, but she cleaned up enough to reclaim her daughter to this day, and while guys who now fly under the junkie radar, Steven Tyler (who in the past couple of days has entered rehab for substance abuse), Robert Downey jnr etc, Courtney's past is continually thrust into her present.

Okay, but I understand, she's a loser for doing hard drugs, fine. Now, moving along to the actual part that is relevant, the shoe. Hendrix has a whole slew of liscenced goods, he was a junkie also. Bob Marley, well you can buy Tuff Gong Bob Marley bongs and pipes, is this morally correct? What are we promoting there? It's a shoe, not a shotgun or a needle. You go into the local mall, and all you see is BAM wear etc. Bam? A drug user, a man that just published pics of his naked wife? Who started the rumors which broke up another marriage? That's wholesome.

Believe me, I'm neither on one side or the other, I'm playing Devils advocate to the other side, but one thing I do know, Frances Bean should probably go to college. If they can sell some sig shoes to fund that, well, that's what Kurt left her, his name, and I'm sure he would want her to be educated and live in a nice home and live a nice life.

HAH... they do acctually look like the shoes he was allegedly wearing when they found his body.

I don't see what the fuss is all about. It's not like people using tragic events to market crap hasn't been done before. It's tacky whether it's Cobain, or anyone else.

Are you kidding? Her great great grand children will be able to BUY a college with the money Nirvana made/makes.

If he wanted his daughter to have a nice life he wouldn't have had the lead snack, period.

Courtney is an opportunistic/profiteering piece of trash, who sold her dead husbands music/image to the highest bidder. Her repeated relapses have exactly NOTHING to do with that.

The apologists forget that as much as Kurt whined about the commercialization of his art, he sure had no problem diving headfirst into the MTV money pool and cashing the checks.

Here's how ol' half-face could have avoided the issues:

MTV wonk: "Hey Kurt, you want to be a big time pop idol, and make a bunch of silly videos you'll hate, in exchange for your privacy and a mountain of cash?"

Kurt: "No."

Cobain's arrogance, and apparent need to "martyr" himself in some sort of public display to ensure we all wept for the tortured artist was a long time coming, and he was determined to see it through. Those around him chose to facilitate that path, with exception of Dave and Kris.

And just because you brought it up, a few years ago I shared a plane ride with Casandra Goines who at the time was the head of Tuff Gong Records. She talked about two things: American pop music was beyond awful, but she had high hopes for this kid Sean Paul who was looking to break stateside with the Dutty Rock sound, and what she was doing to try to stop the bootlegging of Bob's image/music, but the family was losing the battle, and that I should expect Marley EVERYTHING to hit our market within two years.

She was dead right on both counts. Sean Paul went HUGE international, and Bob Marley rolling papers are "entertaining" college students world-wide. Sometimes the Courtneys win, that doesn't mean they are not immoral douchebags.

Nice...

It occurs to me that maybe he got into it because he wanted to share his music with an appreciative fan base on a level that he would not have been able to otherwise. No one knows of the downfalls of fame until they get into it. They can be warned about it by others but some can handle it and some can't, and I'd imagine that most people, Kurt included, didn't think about it, figuring it wouldn't be that bad.

yeh, 'cause i'm sure no-one had a beatles lunchbox...or a Rush bobblehead.
it's just stuff. if you don't like it, don't buy it. it'll disappear soon enough.

and as far as people judging the man's death - which would be worse;, having a parent dying a tragic death (and what death isn't tragic?)of his own will, or living a lifetime with unhappy, unhealthy and mostly absent parents?

What you say is true. But someone has to tell me where it is wrong for the wife and daughter of a dead rock star to profit from his name? It seems that it revolves around the fact that the mother had or has drug issues and peoples personal dislike of her. I gotta admit, she's not my favourite person either. The president had drug issues and he's the president. Who gives a ****? Who is anyone else to say, "oh miss Frances, you've had enough money, Kurt left you enough, you are now not allowed to"... blah blah blah.

Sure, it may be crass, sure it may not be exactly what a 20 something year old musician would have envisioned, but it's where we're at. It's where the Hendrix, Doors, Joplin, Jaco, Marley, estates are all at. Profit. He did become a heroin addict, he did sink into morbid depression, he did eat lead, it's done and who is anyone else to say what he did was wrong. People commit suicide everyday eating doughnuts, cheese, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. Substance abuse comes in many forms, we're all stopping our heart in some way.

He made many mistakes and everyone is well aware of Kurt's commercialization and how behind the scenes he was perfectly okay with the business of Nirvana, no news there.

And yes, he committed an awful act, the worst, I have a daughter, I know nothing could drag me to that point, but really, do u not think he would want her to have the best life possible now?

It's a shoe with a name on it. That's it. Big deal.

As for Steven Tyler, please, you're buying that Brother? And Lohan is suffering from "exhaustion" I 'spose... come on... he likes his gear, he's old, he's earned it!

There's an evidence line a mile long pointing to Lohan's partying/using/etc. There's none of that with Tyler. I'm not defending him, as I'm not an big Aerosmith fan.

Hey, with his money, fame, and accomplishments, have at it baby! :D
