A lot of people are saying that suicide is selfish. In some cases, it may be. But you don't know what those people are going through. They may face indescribable misery every minute of every day. They may have tried to get help, which failed. In some instances, the family would rather that person basically live in hell, just so the family could still be with them, rather than that person end their misery. In that case, it sounds pretty selfish to demand that the person stay alive.

Wasn't this conversation originally about a pair of shoes with Cobain's mug/signature/fingerprint/poetry on them, or whatever? And the outrage directed at Converse because they dare to use Kurt's material to hock shoes?

It's a pretty old case of using someone famous' face and signature to push a product for more dollars than it's worth. It's advertising. There's nothing remotely ethical about it. I'm surprised that everyone else is surprised...

I'm interested... I've thought about it too, many times, so many times that I realize that I'm only thinking about it and I'm just sad sometimes. My wifes mother attempted suicide many times, so many infact that it was kind of a bore and they just ignored her in the end. She eventually died of natural causes when my wife was 10. My wife always said she had little respect for her mothers attempts, it was just to torture her kids. If her mother wanted to truly kill herself, she would have. She'd have dug the blades in deeper. She'd have done it when she was alone.

The only suicidal person I ever knew was my pal Dave. I was still in high school, he was working his first job. One Friday night/Saturday morning, he hung himself in his closet. He never said anything to anyone. His parents didn't know why, no one ever did.

I guess my point is, can we ever really know what it truly is to be suicidal? All we have is notes and messages that we can never question. Those who are truly suicidal and are experiencing what it takes to get you to that point, are gone.

Sorry, missed this earlier. You have a valid point, although I don't think Kurts habits were ever as bad as Courtneys.

But, IMO, there's a world of difference between selling your own works for your own drug habits, and whoring out your dead relatives for your own drug habits.

If there was a trust fund set up such that all proceeds from the shoes were to be saved for Kurts childs college education and future, I'd be all for the shoes. But there isn't. If Courtney actually took all the profits from anything related to Nirvana or Kurt, and set them aside for the child, and used any profits from 'Hole' to fuel whatever habits she sees fit, I'd have no problem. But she doesn't.
